Is Annella a name?

I am really trying to sell my husband on the name [name]Nell[/name] but he doesn’t like one syllable names as first names. He loves [name]Nellie[/name] and that’s what I would want to call her but I want a proper first name, I don’t feel [name]Nellie[/name] can be the first name but husband does. I would love to use [name]Nell[/name] but trying to find some alternatives. I do not like [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Helen[/name], [name]Penelope[/name]. I thought of [name]Annella[/name] b/c I used to always call my friend [name]Annie[/name] [name]Annella[/name] as a joke but is it a real name?? Having trouble finding much info on it as a name. It is listed in one of the blogs on here as a scottish name but don’t see that anywhere else. That would be nice since our first daughter has scottish name of Mhairi.

It seems to be the Danish/Swedish pet form of [name]Anna[/name].

I think it’s very pretty actually. Another name you can use that can easily give you the nn [name]Nellie[/name] is [name]Annelise[/name].

I think of [name]Nell[/name]/[name]Nellie[/name] as one of those names that can be made from many things. I mean, [name]Eleanor[/name] doesn’t have the “[name]Nell[/name]” sound in it, but [name]Nell[/name] is still a nn for it. It reminds me of [name]Elizabeth[/name] going by [name]Libby[/name]. It’s just a nn. Therefore, I think you can use anything similar as a full name and call her [name]Nell[/name] or [name]Nellie[/name].

Some ideas:

[name]Noelle[/name]
[name]Janelle[/name]
[name]Elena[/name]
[name]Nicolette[/name]

I think it’s probably not a name with lots of history, it does sound nice though. I think [name]Annie[/name] is kind of inevitable.

Scottish names containing [name]Nel[/name] seem few and far between…

Scottish names containing el:

[name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Elspeth[/name]
[name]Isobel[/name]

Scottish names starting with N:
[name]Neilina[/name] ([name]Nell[/name] seems fairly obvious from this one! and it’s pretty!)
(there are a few others you can find but sound is all very far from [name]Nell[/name])

Combine two?
[name]Neilina[/name] [name]Elspeth[/name] nn [name]Nell[/name]
[name]Neilina[/name] [name]Isobel[/name] nn [name]Nell[/name]

Not sure [name]Neilina[/name] [name]Annabel[/name] works as well.

Good luck!

there are some real beauties here:

Evanell (pronounced EH-va-nell)
[name]Antonella[/name]
[name]Arianell[/name] (pr ah-ree-ah-nell)
Catrinel (Romanian form of [name]Catherine[/name])
[name]Janelle[/name]
Marianel
[name]Nella[/name]
Peronelle (the medieval English form of [name]Petronilla[/name])

I know a girl in her mid 20s named Annela.
I dont know the background of her name, but yes, it exists! She wears it quite nicely and has occasionally been [name]Nell[/name].

It certainly is.

Not sure about [name]Annella[/name], but [name]Anel[/name] (pron. [name]Ah[/name] nell) is not so uncommon where I live.

I like blade’s suggestion of Evanell, so pretty.

I have a friend from Belgium who goes by [name]Nele[/name] (pronounced [name]Nell[/name]-a), and I believe it is short for [name]Cornelia[/name].

[name]Annella[/name] most definitely exists as it is my name (and my mothers). I am from Northern [name]Ireland[/name] (Scottish descent) My grandfather made it up although I’m aware of other Annellas. I got called [name]Nelly[/name] at school. I didn’t like it at the time but now I quite like it when I hear people using that name.

[name]Hope[/name] this helps.

[name]Annella[/name].

It is VERY helpful, how nice to meet an actual [name]Annella[/name]…and that it is both you and your mother’s name! I love that. Your grandfather had good taste! Beautiful name and of course love the nn [name]Nellie[/name]/[name]Nelly[/name].

It lists [name]Annella[/name] as a Scottish form of [name]Anna[/name]. And…

This page states that [name]Annella[/name] di [name]Massimo[/name] painted part of this church in the 1600s. So the name had some usage in [name]Italy[/name] as well.

ETA: I forgot to mention [name]Arianell[/name] nn [name]Nell[/name] as a suggestion.

I know a woman name [name]Annella[/name]. Her grandmothers are [name]Anna[/name] and [name]Stella[/name] so her parents combined them to mane [name]Annella[/name]

I actually think [name]Annella[/name] sounds cute. I like the nn [name]Nell[/name].

If you did want to use another name I like the suggestion of [name]Antonella[/name] and I like [name]Petronella[/name], which was mentioned with Peronelle.

Thank you - lavendyr!
