For some reason, naming my son Maisen came so naturally and now with my little girl I feel like I am going crazy over it! I keep changing my mind or when I find one I love my hubby shoots it down! We have completely different taste and style. [name_u]Baby[/name_u] is due in 6 days and I still haven’t committed. I loved [name_f]Bettine[/name_f] (bettie) but husband didn’t like it. I got mixed reactions on the name. Either they loved it or hated it. Husband agreed on Belline (belle) which has a similar sound but flows easier off the tongue but he still isn’t in love with it. I can’t find Belline listed anywhere online and am second guessing myself… I like the unique sound but I dont want to look like I made up a name. Then I jumped completely in a different direction with the name [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] for a girl. I think it has a jazzy feel and I really like it. SOO here I am going crazy over this… [name_f]Bettine[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f], Belline [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]…? [name_f]My[/name_f] son is Maisen [name_m]William[/name_m]… so I am trying to find a name that goes well… I have completely given up on agreeing with the husband who will most likely be naming our next child because we cannot agree which seems to be a fair trade. So does anyone have any options on these names? Or suggestions that go with my taste/style. Middle name [name_f]Louise[/name_f] and I do not want to use a trend or fad name ([name_f]Aria[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], anything ending with [name_u]Lyn[/name_u], anna, line or ella) (I know Im a baby name snob…) I want something unique but not made up and it has to go with Maisen. If my daughter is anything like me she will be feminine, eccentric, artistic and athletic. Please help!
I think girls names are harder than boys names. I am not sure why.
I like [name_f]Bettine[/name_f] but I like [name_f]Bettina[/name_f] better, apersonally. Belline sounds like a nice name. Here on Nameberry there is “[name_f]Beline[/name_f]” which means “goddess” in [name_m]French[/name_m]. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]. See? You are not going crazy!
The only [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] I know is a boy but I can totally see it at as a girls name. [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] sounds very Southern, which I don’t know if that it your intention.
[name_u]Maison[/name_u] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] and _______ [name_f]Louise[/name_f] (feminine, eccentric, artistic, athletic :))

I adore both Belline and [name_u]Memphis[/name_u]. I have actually had [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] stuck in my head all week for some reason. It’s cool. It sounds really great with Maisen.
I have always loved [name_f]Bettina[/name_f]. It seems a tad more delicate than [name_f]Bettine[/name_f] to me.
You seem very stressed, but be reassured. Your ideas are not crazy. And you will manage to name this baby.
Is the middle name negotiable?
What about the combos
[name_u]Memphis[/name_u] Belline/ [name_f]Bettine[/name_f]
[name_f]Bettine[/name_f]/ Belline [name_u]Memphis[/name_u]
[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce Belline? I first read it like the drink (Bellini)
Thank you for all of the suggestions! Yes I am very stressed. Partially because I’m just so ready to have this baby! I am due in a few days :] At least I am reassured that I am not completely “out there” with my naming preferences. Anyways, yes Belline is pronounced like the drink but without the “i” at the end. Like [name_f]Celine[/name_f] but with a B. :] I still love [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] so I will most likely wait until I can hold her to see what “feels right.” Thank you guys so much :]
Some of the suggestions I liked were [name_f]Briony[/name_f] and [name_u]Indiana[/name_u]! Im getting bit by the “place” names bug. LoL I am going to keep a short list on hand incase my top two choices do not feel appropriate. Has anyone else done something like this and waited until the last minute?
I know a dozen or so people who waited till after the baby was born. Most waited a day or a week or two. One woman waited four months.
[name_f]Bettine[/name_f] or Belline. I really dislike [name_u]Memphis[/name_u].
I love [name_u]Memphis[/name_u]!
I love [name_u]Memphis[/name_u]!! [name_f]My[/name_f] friend’s little girl is named [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] & everyone always compliments her name choice!! [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] sounds lovely & Maisen & [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] are perfect together!!!
[name_f]Belle[/name_f] is so close to [name_f]Bella[/name_f], which seems so overly saturated post-Twilight. [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is right up there with the [name_f]Bella[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] trend. Since you expressed the desire to avoid a trend or fad name, I would honestly veer away from Belline nn [name_f]Belle[/name_f].
As possible runners-up to [name_u]Memphis[/name_u], perhaps you would consider…
Maisen & [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f]
Maisen & [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]
Maisen & [name_u]Paisley[/name_u]
Maisen & [name_f]Briony[/name_f] (I like this suggestion too)
Maisen & [name_u]Piper[/name_u]
Maisen & [name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
Maisen & [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u]
Maisen & [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
Maisen & [name_u]Toby[/name_u]
Best wishes!!
I disagree with this part. I dont think Maisen and [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] sound good at all. And if I saw this sisbset, I would think it was two brothers. Although I adore the name [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] on a boy, but [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] was originally a boys name. Was [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] originally a girls name?
I would do a name that is easy to spell and pronounce because Maisen is not a correct spelling of [name_u]Mason[/name_u], so he’ll have misspelled name issues his whole life. It would be easier to have a proper, feminine name for your daughter.
What about [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Samara[/name_f] (love this one), [name_f]Marina[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Eurydice[/name_f] (ur-rid-ah-see), [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f], [name_f]Athena[/name_f], [name_f]Bianca[/name_f].
What a tough one. Belline and [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] are so different. I think of [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] as a boys name, they aren’t really my style but that’s more than ok. Belline hmm… If you’re feeling place names for her have you considered [name_m]Berlin[/name_m]? Maisen & [name_m]Berlin[/name_m] are a lovely set. You could call her berry? Or [name_u]Lyn[/name_u]? Another idea is to get a list of places like how [name_u]Skye[/name_u] is perfect if you love [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] or are Scottish. There are endless place names some with really feminine vibes. I agree girl names are HARD!!! [name_u]Holland[/name_u] I really like for you too.
I disagree with this part. I dont think Maisen and Memphis sound good at all. And if I saw this sisbset, I would think it was two brothers.
I also think Maisen and [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] are too similar sound wise too many m’s and s’s together.
Maisen and Belline [name_f]Louise[/name_f] are beautiful together.
Maisen and [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] sound like two brothers.
Why not just [name_f]Belle[/name_f]? [name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] sounds nice.
So a few things first.
- I wouldn’t suggest getting hung up on names your husband doesn’t like. Like [name_f]Bettina[/name_f]. At this point it’s too late to try to do some convincing and I think it would just cause more anxiety and stress. He has given the ok for [name_f]Bellina[/name_f] though, so we can work with that.
- I hate to break it to you, but your taste in names is trendy. But that’s ok. Stop stressing about being unique. I like trendy names too, so does everyone else here (for the most part) including the people who talk down popularity, because what could be trendier than being “unique”? But the think is we aren’t really that unique. Take your son’s name for instance. [name_u]Maison[/name_u], a lovely name, but very trendy. It’s only a change of spelling from [name_u]Mason[/name_u] and it’s a construct of trendy sounds, which in itself is a trendy thing to do. Take a beginning kay, may, tay, bay, bray, and add an ending, son, lon, lee. Come up with a different way of spelling it and you have a name that isn’t very high on the list but still sounds like all the other names on the playground.
3)[name_u]Memphis[/name_u] is an unusual name. It’s not unusable, but it’s not one of the common city names. It doesn’t even sound like a name, unlike the more popular city names. [name_u]London[/name_u], [name_u]Paris[/name_u] … I think it would make for a fun middle though.
So I think [name_u]Maison[/name_u] and Belline go well together. They are both very lovely sounding modern building block names. Belline itself may not be on the charts but it is comprosed of very popular elements of belle/bella and ine like in [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], or [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. Not sure which way you want it pronounced but it’s a well liked ending.
I think you have the name you already like! Could be last minute jitters. Belline is a lovely name, go for it!
I think you are right! I think I am sticking with Belline pronounced like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is always cute and not unusual as a nickname. It is very trendy. I think when we chose Maisen’s name I was young and didn’t really do much research on baby names and just liked the sound. Come to find out, so did everyone else! lol. The spelling came from me wanting to use the “ai” because of the “ai” trend sparked from the [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] craze 3+ years ago. And my husband wanted the “en” instead of “on” because of that trend. So I guess I do follow the trends! Anyways, I really love Belline and can picture her as an adult going by Belline or [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. I can’t think of any grounds for teasing either. I think its just last minute jitters. Maisen [name_m]William[/name_m] & Belline [name_f]Louise[/name_f]! <3 Thank you all for your suggestions and opinions!
so glad to hear you’re feeling better about your decision! Congratulations again!
I didn’t find Belline in the baby name books that I checked, but Bellini was listed in one. “Bellini (Italian) - little beautiful one - originally a surname. People think of Bellini as pretty, sexy, funny, creative, caring. People who like the name Bellini also like [name_f]Bella[/name_f], [name_f]Adrina[/name_f], Bambina, [name_f]Bianca[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Angelina[/name_f], [name_f]Aria[/name_f], [name_f]Belle[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Gianna[/name_f].”
I love the meaning of the name, “little beautiful one.” It was originally a surname as was [name_u]Mason[/name_u]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] names have been made a bit more unique with the spelling or name ending. People think of Bellini as creative and you describe yourself as artistic. It seems to be a match.
Good luck to you.
You could also use Mabelline, Mabeline, Mabelene, Maybelline.
Isnt that a makeup brand? I wouldnt do that to the poor child
