Is Arabella too long or just right?

My husband and I adore the name [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] for this baby if it is a girl. However, we are hearing feedback that it is too long compared to our other daughter’s names, [name_f]Eva[/name_f] & [name_f]Mila[/name_f]. I agree that it is long compared to those names, but I kind of like that it balances out the length of our son’s name, [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m]. What do you think? Is it too long? Overall opinions of the sibset?

Thanks in advance!

I think [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] works just fine. If it’s the name you love, you should use it. Sibsets don’t have to match unless that is a top priority for you somehow.

I guess the only thing that matters to me is that the names we choose don’t clash horribly - in sound or in style. The more I think of it I’m seeing that [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] has a more classic style, whereas the others have a bit of a classic European flair to them. I’m not sure if the styles clash or not.

I think it sounds perfect, it does have some European flair but it also matches with the sort of classic romantic feel of [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m]. [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] could also have thousands of nicknames which bring her closer to the length of her siblings. I think it’s a really good fit.

I don’t think it sounds terribly out of whack with your other children’s names, but it does sound quite grand and flowy compared to sweet and simple [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and [name_f]Eva[/name_f], especially since it has double the syllables. [name_m]How[/name_m] about just [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m], [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f] sound lovely together, and it makes it just a little more grounded in my opinion.

I don’t think [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] is too long. I feel that it is just right. My preference is longer names. You have so many nickname combos. Longer names always sound so lovely too.

Both of daughters first and middle name combinations are more grand and flowy ([name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] & [name_f]Mila[/name_f] [name_f]Cosette[/name_f]). They are called by their first and middle names often. If I paired [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] with a shorter middle name, do you think it would be more of an even match?

I don’t necessarily think that [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] clashes with your other kids, but it does seem somehow less European, more frilly and modern than [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Mila[/name_f], definitely less Eastern European than [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m].

I like the suggestion of [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f], but that doesn’t really resolve it for me. Some ideas:

[name_f]Giselle[/name_f]
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f]
[name_f]Sonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f]
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]

I really love [name_f]Giselle[/name_f], [name_f]Bianca[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], and [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] with your family. Very elegant, romantic, [name_m]French[/name_m]/Russian ballerina names, to me.

[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] is adorable and you should definitely use it.

If you had 3 children and all had short names, I’d agree maybe you should keep it short, but your son’s name isn’t, so I think a long name is better so that no particular child feels singled out with the different-type name.
