Is Arachne unusable?

I have a strange attraction to this name and think it would make an adorable sibset with [name]Juniper[/name] and [name]Finola[/name] or [name]Otis[/name]. From my understanding, it is pronounced [name]Ah[/name]-rack-nee. Thoughts? Is it unusable.

Spiders spiders spiders is all I think of. I love [name]Ariadne[/name] though!

[name]Ariadne[/name] was my first thought too! Yes, I agree too many people have a fear of spiders to pull this off with mainly good reactions.

Yep, spiders. I think Arachne being the root of Arachnid is your problem.
The Arachne myth is quite an interesting one-a mortal weaver was turned into a spider by [name]Athena[/name] after she was too proud over her ability- but I don’t think the character is really a great namesake.

The funny thing is is that I am a severe arachnophobic, but I do so love Arachne [name]Frances[/name]. This is the only name that carried over from my high school obsession with Greek mythology. (my love for [name]Jocasta[/name] came much later)

Arachnid comes to my mind.
What about Adrachne?
[name]Ariadne[/name] is a favorite aswell.

[name]Ariadne[/name] is unfortunately not usable for me. My brother’s fiance has a child with this name (her half-brother is named Nimbus  )

Please don’t. It’s spider, for God’s sake…
So you like greek myth? just consider [name]Athena[/name], [name]Hera[/name], [name]Hestia[/name], [name]Persephone[/name], [name]Demetria[/name] (from demeter), anything but not the spider.

I love Arachne! I truly do! I’ve loved it for a while now.
I would love to use it, but I don’t think it’s usable as everyone’s association is with spiders. Although, maybe, within a few years it could become usable considering names on trend now.

I like it, but I think of the story behind it too. She’s claims to be a better weaver than [name]Athena[/name] and when they have a challenge and [name]Athena[/name] sees how good she is, she fills her with so much guilt that Arachne hangs herself. The best part of the story is that [name]Athena[/name] feels pity and brings her back as a spider.

[name]Even[/name] though I like it, I have a hard time imagining many people will have a good reaction.

I love the myth, but I don’t think it’s a name with qualities that people will want to give their children. I love [name]Ariadne[/name] but as you said, out of the question. What about [name]Penelope[/name], another mythical weaver?

I automatically think of spiders when I see Arachne, and I’m not fond of spiders at all.

Honestly, the fact that it roots from spider is exactly why I like it. The reason I’d stray against it is just that I find the “rach” sound to be harsh.

If you feel passionate about the name, if you’re ok with having a little spiderling–then go for it. As for it’s namesake, it’s no different than the ladies who name their daughters [name]Ophelia[/name].

As for it’s namesake, it’s no different than the ladies who name their daughters [name]Ophelia[/name].

I actually was thinking that myself as well. [name]Cassandra[/name] also has an equally tragic story. She was raped then herself and her sons were murdered by the wife of the man who took her as his concubine.

Meh, the spider thing actually doesn’t bother me. [name]Charlotte[/name] could also just as easily be associated with a spider, especially among children.

Immediate thought is SPIDERS! What if she hates spiders and can you imagine the teasing of elementary kids? She will be asked constantly “[name]Do[/name] your parents like spiders?” I’m sorry, that is just my opinion. So yes unusable.

The first thing I thought of was spiders. Not a great association.
