Is Artemis too much?

Lately I have been loving [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], which is quite outside my usual preference. I love the connection to the Greek mythology and find it appealing on it’s own. Perhaps due to my exposure to [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] Fowl, I find the name far more accessible than some other God and [name_f]Goddess[/name_f] names, which I am not bold enough to use.

Opinions? Is it equivalent to [name_m]Zeus[/name_m], [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], [name_u]Royal[/name_u], etc? [name_m]How[/name_m] wearable is it?

[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] is wonderful! I personally think that it’s wearable.

I think [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] is definitely wearable and completely usable. It’s not as obviously out there as [name_m]Zeus[/name_m], [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] etc. but still interesting, unusual and a brilliant name (that I’m also really crushing on :)).

I agree that [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] is 100% wearable! Certainly more unusual than other name options, but not comparable to [name_m]Zeus[/name_m], [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], [name_u]Royal[/name_u] etc.

I go back and forth on [name_u]Artemis[/name_u].
I too read the [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] Fowl books and I think it’s a lovely name.
However, thinking about next year finding a kid named [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] in my club class or meeting an [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] at work, I do think I would be rather taken aback.
I think [name_m]Aramis[/name_m] is a bit more accessible.

I think [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] is too out there and explicitly mythological, personally, sort of like [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f]. It’s a dog name to me.

Definitely wearable. I’d add it to my own list if only I haven’t used too many moon related names already. It is a wonderful name.

I agree with this. I love [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], I think it’s wearable and would love to meet a little (or a big) [name_u]Artemis[/name_u].

BUT it is also too explicitly mythological to me, so I wouldn’t personally use it. Less well-known goddesses might make better namesakes - [name_u]Echo/name_u, [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Hera[/name_f], [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] for example.

[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] is far too out there. I also thought it was a boys name.

I knew of an [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] when I was younger. My mom’s family is from Greece and we have an [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] and a [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] in the family. It’s not uncommon to meet an [name_f]Athena[/name_f] at a function–although this seems more wearable on females, I have yet to meet a [name_m]Zeus[/name_m] or Hades.

With other mythological names becoming more common, I wouldn’t bat an eye if you introduced your daughter as [name_u]Artemis[/name_u]. I think it’s totally fine.

It’s a little too far out there for me. I think it’s wonderful for a middle name though.

I have the exact same relationship with [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] - I love it, but struggle with weather its usable in the real world. As usual, I think it depends on the family. But it shouldn’t be different than [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] or [name_f]Diana[/name_f] (which according to my limited knowledge is basically the same…). Sometimes I wonder if adding a second name would help (like [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]), but I’m undecided. But in the end, If you love it, go for it!

  • wrong “weather” and I couldn’t edit…

Thank you everyone!
