Is Aurora becoming overused/too popular?

I love the name [name]Aurora[/name]…its on my shortlist. I’ve noticed that alot of other people on berrys love it too though…and its on quite a few shortlists/discussion forums. My question is do you think the name will become overused and lose its individuality? I like that its not very common…however I’ve noticed its in the top 200 already…[name]Do[/name] you think it will climb its way to the top 100?

I think it will get popular. Everyone on here seems to love it, and I know plenty of people [name]IRL[/name] who love it. I like it fine, but I do think there’s a possibility of it getting popular.

It’s climbed steadily since 200, but I don’t see it hittig the top 100. I think it’s a lovely name and have only heard it once on a little girl (and as a middle name at that). I also think because of the recent tragedy it may not climb very much next year.

I know of two [name]Aurora[/name]'s. [name]One[/name] is age 2 and the other is just under a year, so it’s definitely gaining popularity. BUT, if you love it- use it! My daughter is a [name]Lily[/name]. It’s way up there on the charts but I have no regrets. AND her pre-school teacher (who has been teaching for 20 years) said that is the first [name]Lily[/name] she’s ever had in class. So there you go! Good luck!

2007: 1066 babies
2008: 1170 babies
2009: 1486 babies
2010: 1521 babies
2011: 1706 babies

Always look at the actual numbers. Rankings are misleading.

Is [name]Aurora[/name] rising? Absolutely. [name]Will[/name] she continue to rise? It’s likely. Is that a reason you shouldn’t use [name]Aurora[/name]? Nope! When there are less than 2000 babies being named [name]Aurora[/name] each year, it’s fair to say the name is not overused. Also keep in mind that the names raved about on Nameberry aren’t necessarily the names embraced by the general public.

The shootings in [name]Aurora[/name], CO may impact the name’s popularity as well. Parents who had [name]Aurora[/name] at the top of their list before may be reconsidering.

What she said!

Well I haven’t met one… It really depends on where you live. I mean I grew up with tons of [name]Emily[/name]'s, [name]Sarah[/name]'s, and [name]Katie[/name]‘s, while my fiance’ grew up with tons of [name]Britney[/name]'s and [name]Erica[/name]'s…

I don’t think it’s overused at all, a lot of people like it but won’t use it likely due to pronunciation issues, and I mean really, it’s the name of a Disney [name]Princess[/name], so it’s not like it’s unheard of or rare.

It’ll likely climb into the top 100, but it’s far from overused.

I’ve always loved that name… However, I would never name a child that, for the following reasons:

  1. Yes, it is losing it’s individuality. Nowadays, unique is popular, so everyong is striving to find names that are unique and princess like for their little girls.

  2. When the girl is young, she and her classmates will have a hard time pronouncing it. It would be very hard to have a name you can’t pronounce! Also, would if she ends up having some kind of speech problem? What if she could never pronounce her own name? I have a speech problems, myself, because of the arrangement in my mouth, and I can’t fully pronounce my own first or last name. [name]Amber[/name] is okay… Although it sounds slightly like ‘Amba.’ ([name]Just[/name] a little bit.) Similar, but bigger problem with my last name. It’s awful. And once you hit 27, it stops being cute. [name]Aurora[/name] would be positively awful for the little girl. If you really like it, though, go for it as a middle name.

This is my sister [name]Amber[/name] btw

Thnaks for the feedback guys! I can only hope the name doesn’t beome uber poplular in years to come! I think you may be right in that the recent shootings in [name]Aurora[/name] CO will have halted the name continuing to climb in the popularity stakes! The event even made me reconsider using the name in spite of the fact I’ve loved it sonce I wa a child and dont live in the US!!!

I agree. Not completly, thought. I think name would be between rank 100 and rank 200. Pronunciation issues and shooting would be a barrier and would affect on the rank. I would also add that [name]Aurora[/name] is beautiful name, no matter what problems that name has.

I think its more popular online than in real life. I see it on a lot of lists, but I haven’t seen it on many babies in the Announcements section at all. Its a really lovely name with a gorgeous name, popularity, in this case, shouldn’t deter you if you love it.

Am I the only one who doesn’t find [name]Aurora[/name] hard to say?

I was thinking the same thing, but then I remembered when I was a kid, the hardest letter for the majority of my classmates was R. [name]Even[/name] I had trouble saying it, so I can see her having problems in kindergarten…

My fiance’s niece [name]Nora[/name] even used to call herself [name]Noa[/name] because she couldn’t say R…
