Is Aurora too popular?

Love the name and considering it for our second baby, but concerned with its increasing popularity. Our other daughter’s name is unique (800’s on SSI popularity), but not unheard of. Think similar to Celeste. Aurora is the only girl name I feel a connection to right now, but I’m bummed because I feel like it is popping up all over recently.

How many Auroras have you met?

Do you think this will climb to a top ten name?

Thoughts on the name or other suggestions?

I do think [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is increasing in popularity. I only know one. I don’t foresee it being top ten.

Other names that come to mind:

Andelayne
[name_u]Camille[/name_u]
[name_f]Cosette[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]

If you love it, I say go for it. I don’t know any Aurora’s of any age.

I think the popularity can sometimes be skewed depending on where you live too. [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is [name_m]Uber[/name_m] popular everywhere you look and I just came across the first little [name_u]Avery[/name_u] in person while on vacation. Heard her sister yell across the pool at her.

Don’t let that deter you if that’s the name you love and the one with a connection!

If you love it, then definitely don’t lose out on it! Popularity isn’t what it used to be. There were 5,184 Aurora’s born in 2020 in the US, just for reference.

It might be a popular name but I haven’t met anyone with it, old or young. I think it’s great that you feel a connection to a name, I hope you get to use it!

I don’t think [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is too popular. I’m a teacher who meets hundreds of new kids each year and I can only remember one [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] in the last five years.

[name_f]My[/name_f] almost 12-year-old is [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], so we were a bit ahead of the trend there. But we’ve only ever met a couple others, and we love her name every bit as much as we did when we chose it. It has a fun nickname, works in other languages, has the cool northern lights association, and a gorgeous meaning. Best of all, our daughter loves it. It will never be a boring name, even if its popularity increases, and since it has a long history of use I’m hopeful it won’t seem trendy or dated.

I think it’s gaining popularity slightly but nothing significant. Honestly popularity, especially for girls names, isn’t as big as it sounds since more and more people are trying to use unique names. I was super worried that my son’s name was too popular (it’s in the 400s range) but since he’s been born literally everyone we say his name to their first reaction is “wow that’s such a unique name, I never hear that one” even from the doctors and nurses in the hospital and his pediatrician’s office who hear all the new baby names constantly.

I have a preschool age [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and I also work with kids and have yet to meet another [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. I have met 2 Rorys (both girls, both just [name_u]Rory[/name_u], not [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] called Rory). It’s a beautiful name but a bit tricky to say so even if it is gaining popularity I don’t see it becoming the next [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] by any means

popularity definitely depends on where you live - if i remember correctly, [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] was the top name in [name_u]Alaska[/name_u] a few years ago, but in some states probably didn’t even rank. i’ve never met an [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], but as i’m not American i don’t think that’s of much use to you. if it means anything to you though, i haven’t met people with most of the names in the 800s where i am, and if i have it’s only 1 or 2.

I’ve never met an [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] (and I’m American)! If you love it, I think it’s absolutely the one!

I’ve met two Auroras - one who was a teen, one who was a baby

It has been climbing and I could see it as least getting to the top twenty potentially -it has the qualities.

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is pretty though and if what I’m thinking your daughter’s name is correct, they go well.

Some other suggestions:

[name_f]Aura[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Astoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Ilaria[/name_f]
[name_f]Soraya[/name_f]

I don’t know anyone with that name. I think it is lovely and goes really well with [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] might be growing in popularity, but if you truly love it, then it doesn’t matter how popular or unpopular it is. As of long as you are happy with it. Here are some other suggestions too.

[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphire[/name_f]
[name_f]Amethyst[/name_f]
[name_f]Amber[/name_f]

I have never met an [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] of any age, so I don’t know how popular it is. I think it is absolutely gorgeous, so I would encourage you to use it if you love it.

Personally I don’t think a name is ever too popular if you love a name then whatever that names popularity you should use it. Ultimately if it was me I would feel regret not choosing a name I love because of its popularity. Of course there are some names I’m bored off as a result of popularity such as [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] but then I was never really a fan of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] to begin with. Whereas I love [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and continue to love [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] despite her global popularity. I would also avoid a name if it’s repeatedly used within my social circle as I would find that annoying. However I do feel that if you love a name do not allow popularity to put you off. Also there’s a wide range of names being used nowadays so names really as popular as they were when we were at school.

So in a nutshell no I do not think [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is too popular to use!

I’ve taught one [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] a few years back in HS, but alas, I don’t know any babies or toddlers.

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is beautiful - I think of the Northern Lights - but I find it hard to say. It looks better than it sounds to me.

I surely love [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is so pretty, especially since it means sunrise :sunrise_over_mountains:
I haven’t met a lot of Auroras, but I have met quite a few people who love the name just like you. Because of that, I would say it has a possibility of being in the top 20 but probably not top 10. I don’t see names like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] going away anytime soon.

[name_f]My[/name_f] 10 year old neighbour is [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and I have a high school acquaintance with an infant [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] . I have never met any others but I do think the name is stunning.

I don’t think [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is too common. It’s a known name and isn’t too hard to spell. It has the celestial/ outdoorsy northern lights vibe which I love

I would say that it’s likely not going to be a number one name.

The Aurora’s I know have siblings
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]

I am an [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], I have met a couple over the years. I think if you love it, you should go for it! There’s also [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] which is very pretty too and farther down on the charts. I really like my name and I hope it doesn’t turn into a top ten!
