I know many people will say that [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is trendy, but I’m not so sure I would classify [name_f]Ava[/name_f] as trendy. Trendy to me are names like [name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_u]Jayden[/name_u], and [name_f]Kylie[/name_f]! I wouldn’t place [name_f]Ava[/name_f] in a similar category.
What kind of name is [name_f]Ava[/name_f]? [name_m]How[/name_m] much longer do you think it will be popular for?
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] isn’t trendy, but it is popular and on trend…or it was on trend. I would group it with [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. More classic names that are popular and perhaps overused. About 5 years ago it seemed like every baby announcement I received was for an [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] or [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] grace.
I think [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is a very beautiful name, but prefer [name_f]Eva[/name_f] or [name_f]Eve[/name_f].
I agree with pp, I don’t think [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is trendy but I also don’t think it’s classic. Classic, for me at least, seems like more elegant names like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], etc. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is more spunky and modern (not trendy), and perhaps a little bit dated now that its fallen out of trend. Paired with the right middle, [name_f]Ava[/name_f] can also fall more into the ‘vintage’ category, imo.
I wouldn’t label [name_f]Ava[/name_f] as a classic. Where I live it was rarely used until the early 2000s, when it suddenly became very popular. To me a classic would be a name like that has been more consistently popular over the decades like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] or [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].
Agree with all of the above! I would say it’s vintage, as well. It makes me think of [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_u]Gardner[/name_u], the timeless actress.
I’d put it in the “popular” crowd with names like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f].
To me, “trendy” just means that its popularity has increased substantially in a short amount of time. So with that definition, I would consider [name_f]Ava[/name_f] trendy even though it isn’t a new name. I even consider names like [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], or [name_f]Nora[/name_f] to be rather trendy even though they’re neither new nor mega-popular, just because they’ve risen so far in the past few years.
I agree with lumen about the issue of whether it’s classic. Vintage, maybe, but to be classic to me, it has to have been somewhat popular for a long time.
Because of [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_u]Gardner[/name_u], I would say that [name_f]Ava[/name_f] could class as vintage, but it’s more of a modern classic, the same way that [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_f]Megan[/name_f] and [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] are in the UK, and the way that [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] could be in the US. A name that’s always been there but hasn’t been popular until recently, but has maintained popularity for ten years or more. It could easily become a classic if it can hold on to top 200 status for the next 30+ years.
Not really. I would say more vintage trendy. Yes it had some use before the 2000s, but not a lot. I would group this name with names like [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] etc. These names have had some use throughout time, but skyrocketed in popularity during a certain decade. I think names like [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] are more classic since they have a more consistent history of usage.
I wouldn’t call it a classic, however, it is a timeless name that is currently on-trend.
As it’s never been as popular as it currently is, it also doesn’t have that vintage vibe that [name_f]Violet[/name_f] or [name_f]Emma[/name_f] do, instead I’d group it with [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] or [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], they’ve been used throughout the last century but are much more popular now.
I consider it trendy & overused. I would not consider it a classic at all. [name_m]Just[/name_m] because it is not made up, does not mean it is not trendy.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] is an old fashioned name, but I do think it is trendING, even if not trendy. Older names are the in thing now anyway. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is very popular and there will likely be several per grade for a few years now. It has massive appeal because it is simple, ages well, is very feminine, and matches so many middle and last names. It is also recognizable, hard to mispronounce, and easy to read if you have another native language.
I agree with this. I would classify [name_f]Ava[/name_f] as both vintage and trendy, but not a classic. I can’t really picture a Colonial era or Renaissance [name_f]Ava[/name_f] the way I can picture a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or a [name_f]Katherine[/name_f].
