Is Ava too common for us to use?

We love the name, and would pair it with the middle name [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. I just can’t decide if it is too common! I love avielle, which is very unique, and we could call her [name_f]Ava[/name_f], but avielle [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] doesn’t really flow. The sweet simplicity of [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is also something that avielle doesn’t have. Any suggestions for if [name_f]Ava[/name_f] works or other [name_f]Ava[/name_f] - esque names?

Personally, I find [name_f]Ava[/name_f] to be wayyy too popular… Though I don’t think I’ve met any to be fair. I feel like I met an [name_f]Ayva[/name_f] once, but I can’t remember. If you really love it though… ask yourself if you would regret never using it. f the answer is yes it’s probably the one.

But…
Suggestions (I got all of these from the nameberry database)
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f] (AHV-uh-lon)
[name_u]Avry[/name_u] / [name_u]Avery[/name_u] / [name_f]Averie[/name_f]
Avelot (AHV-uh-lot)
[name_f]Avangela[/name_f] (I think it’s Uh-van-jell-uh but maybe its Uh-von-guh-luh)
[name_f]Avellana[/name_f] (I think it means hazelnut and it’s pronunced [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-vel-onn-uh. It’s in the nb database but only as a name with nothing else.)
[name_f]Avra[/name_f] (AHV-ra)

Also, you could do a double middle name. It would solve the problem with Avielle and would make [name_f]Ava[/name_f] more distinct.
Example:
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
Avielle [name_f]Brianna[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]

I agree that [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is way too popular, and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is quite popular as well, it would sound boring
Avielle is much more interesting!
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Eva[/name_f]? [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Eva[/name_f] (its at number 75) is way less popular, but if it was a nickname you could have [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] or [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
If you like Yva, then [name_f]Yvonna[/name_f] is a nice choice!

I like the pp’s suggestion of Avielle with two middles, but not the one of [name_f]Ava[/name_f] with two middles; most people would know her as just [name_f]Ava[/name_f] anyway and I find that name very boring

[name_f]Aviana[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ava[/name_f]?
I really like [name_f]Aviana[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] as a nickname.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] is a top 10 name where I am but I personally don’t know any or know of any.

What about [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ava[/name_f]? I personally love [name_f]Ava[/name_f], but hate the popularity aspect of it. It’s a guilty pleasure name I’d never use, but forever keep it on my list.

If you plan to use the nn [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and you care about the popularity she will be [name_f]Ava[/name_f] S., [name_f]Ava[/name_f] B., etc., in her class. Growing up I went to school with tons of [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]'s. In a class we had 3, one [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] with the full name of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], she went by her middle name. Regardless of her first name she was grouped with the [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]'s as [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] A.

I love the name [name_f]Ava[/name_f]…but it is very popular. But, popular names are popular for a reason. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is beautiful, timeless and simple. I’ve had an [name_f]Ava[/name_f] in my class every year for the past 5 years, but never more then 1.

If you love it, use it. If you name her any [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-esque name and call her [name_f]Ava[/name_f], she’ll still be known as [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. It’s a full name on its own, don’t worry about giving her a fuller name.

Avielle and [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] are my favorite [name_f]Ava[/name_f] variants. I pronounce [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-vuh-leen and would use [name_u]Avi[/name_u] as a nickname rather then [name_f]Ava[/name_f].

As someone else said, ask yourself which you’d regret more - using it or not using it. If it’s a name you really love, ignore the popularity. (Or check your popularity by state - where you are it might not be as common)

I love [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. It is popular because it’s beautiful and simple. She will likely know other girls named [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and people will always know the decade in which she was born but I don’t see those things as necessarily negative. She will be your [name_f]Ava[/name_f].

I hear it soooo much that it’s no longer attractive. While classic and pretty, it’s over saturated. Suggestions:

[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]

We are struggling with this exact same dilemma. I think [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is a beautiful name, but I just don’t think I can use it since it’s so popular. I’ve never met an adult [name_f]Ava[/name_f], but as an elementary teacher, I’ve had a handful of Avas so far. As of this year, we have 4-5 in a 4th grade class of 100. I’m not sure about the other grade levels; I don’t feel like I hear the name “[name_f]Ava[/name_f]” very often, BUT I always keep in mind that most of them may not be school-age yet!

That said, I like the advice of the other posters: if you think you would regret NOT using this name, then definitely use it! At the end of the day, you have to use the names you and DH love and not worry about what the rest of the world thinks.

Yes, it’s very popular, and she may likely be referred to as “[name_f]Ava[/name_f] A., [name_f]Ava[/name_f] B., etc.” If that doesn’t bother you then I would use it. There’s also [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
