Is Avonlea reserved for fans of Anne?

I love the name Avonlea- the look, the sound, the feel and vibe of it. I’m obviously well aware that it’s the fictional village from [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of the [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables, but that’s not the reason I like it (although I do like that it has literary associations). In fact, I haven’t even read the books (as far as I can remember anyway!). Would it be completely weird to use it, for the sake of the name rather than an honour name after a beloved book?
What people ‘assume’ wouldn’t bother me much, as those who know us well would know it wasn’t because of the books, but because of the name itself.

Not a problem in my opinion. You can choose that name for your own reasons. Like you said, people will often assume that association but it won’t bother you so you should be fine

Absolutely not! You can totally use Avonlea even if your not an [name_f]Anne[/name_f] fan:) It’s a great name, and I think I would love it too even if I wasn’t a lover of the books. Some people who hear it might naturally assume that you named her for the books, but you can always easily explain the real reason.

I’d personally find it a little surprising if I were to meet a girl by that name, only to find out you weren’t a fan of the source of said name. I wouldn’t think it was stupid or weird or even a big deal though. My reasoning is this: in my little opinion, that’d be like naming your daughter [name_u]Kesha[/name_u] or [name_f]Madonna[/name_f] and saying “well, I actually really don’t like the singer…just the name”. Again, not a big deal, but also not really any of my business lol.
