My boyfriend likes [name]Bear[/name] for our future baby…I am not sure and kind am hesitant to name a baby this…It is kind of cute (baby [name]Bear[/name])…I would rather use it as a nickname. The last name would be Nevalainan…so I have also tried to look for finnish names that I like but they are a little strange too and I dont like the way most of them are spelled, they look incomplete to me.
Other names we can agree on are
[name]Bodhi[/name]-
[name]Miles[/name]-
[name]Ronan[/name]- but my top name for a girl is [name]Rowan[/name] so I am not sure I am completely on board with this as a first name
He is not a fan of traditional names…I like them.
Any suggestions for the [name]Bear[/name] dillemma would be helpful…also middles names for [name]Bear[/name]?
Maybe also useable finnish names?I know there have been a few posts on this…
I have a daughter named [name]Maya[/name] [name]Isabel[/name]…
Thanks Berries!
[name]Bear[/name] is firmly in in the nickname or middle name camp in my book. I think [name]Miles[/name] is classic and highly wearable. For bear-related names (to get the nickname), you could do [name]Villette[/name]'s [name]Barrett[/name] or [name]Orson[/name], [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Ursinus[/name], [name]Auberon[/name], or Mecho.
I think Esben/[name]Espen[/name] and [name]Bjorn[/name] mean “bear.” I don’t know from which part of Scandinavia they derive, but I bet they have Finnish versions like [name]Bjarne[/name] if those don’t suit close enough. I think [name]Arto[/name] and Otso are Finnish for “bear,” too. Otso sounds cute, reminiscent of vintage [name]Otto[/name].
For Finnish names, I like [name]Ari[/name] (the nn of Aaroni), Armas, [name]Aron[/name], [name]Johan[/name], [name]Kalle[/name] and [name]Kari[/name], [name]Olavi[/name], [name]Reino[/name], Simo (like [name]Simon[/name]), and Topias ([name]Tobias[/name]).
I love [name]Bear[/name]! I think it’s tough enough for a grown-up but cute enough for a baby, but if you don’t like it you could try something with an Urs root. Most of them are feminine like [name]Ursa[/name] or [name]Ursula[/name] and such, but if you tried some more masculine endings it could work and you could call him bear since that’s the meaning. Or just go to google translate and go crazy, you can find some good stuff there.
Or you can go the route [name]Villette[/name] went with using something like [name]Barrett[/name] and shortening it.
[name]Bearard[/name] or Beanard both are alright.
Bearchán looks like it says [name]Bear[/name], but is pronounced [name]Bar[/name]-uh-chan so it’s more separate from the sound.
For middle names I’d avoid nature/hippie and colour names. [name]How[/name] unfortunate would [name]Bear[/name] Creek or [name]Bear[/name] [name]Black[/name] be? I’d go for something strong and masculine like [name]James[/name] or [name]Thomas[/name] or something, just because I feel like with such a soft and nature-y first name the middle should be more grounding. [name]Bear[/name] [name]Micah[/name] is a cute, but too cute when the child’s an adult since [name]Micah[/name] is rather soft and feminine.
Ilove it! If you are hesitant though you can use [name]Baret[/name]/te as a full name do [name]Bear[/name] is just a nn. If It weren’t so similar to my ln I’d put it on my list!
I would only use [name]Bear[/name] as a nickname for something legit and longer. I can see someone named [name]Bear[/name] struggling to secure employment in 18 yrs time…
Wow thank you! Great suggestions…I am with you… I love [name]Bear[/name] as a nickname people…and I do worry about people taking him seriously for jobs and things…I am more picky with boy names because I don’t want to give him a name that is goofy…[name]Bear[/name] is cute but I worry when he grows up…the only adult named [name]Bear[/name] I have heard of is [name]Bear[/name] Grylls…aaaaaahh! I may have to put my foot down…[name]Bear[/name] Nevalainen…idk…thanks for the help… if you guys think of any thing else let me know…
I know a little boy named [name]William[/name] [name]Aaron[/name] [name]Bear[/name] ([name]Bear[/name] as the second middle name, not a surname) and he goes by [name]Bear[/name]. I definitely think it’s doable. You could give him a more common first name, and then use bear as a middle name, but call him by his middle name?
I love [name]Bear[/name]! I would only use it as a NN (my mom started this whole animal nn thing for all of her kids, and I’d love to continue it… [name]Bear[/name] is my first nn choice for my first son!), but I think it is usable as a full name, too… I instantly think of the lead singer of the band Needtobreathe, which, to me, anyway, is a good association.
I think [name]Barrett[/name] would be a great option, with the nn [name]Bear[/name]. I think [name]Bear[/name] is one of those nns you could use with no real connections to your son’s actual name. I mean, my first son will likely be [name]Caleb[/name], maybe [name]Jack[/name] instead… and I would definitely give him the nn [name]Bear[/name]! Or you could do something like use [name]Bear[/name] as a MN… it could be your SO’s sweet nn for your son, but everyone else could call him [name]Miles[/name] or whatever.
