Is Beckham too "BECKHAM"?!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] y’all, I know I’ve asked about this before, but it’s coming down to crunch time (3 weeks!!!) and we still haven’t settled on a name. I’ve always loved the name [name_m]Beckham[/name_m], but my husband has never fully accepted it. However, he recently said it’s growing on him, but he’s still worried about the obvious [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_m]Beckham[/name_m] connection.

So, I guess what I’m looking for is some sort of reassurance! I’m sure all of you in the UK have a very strong association with the name, but how about all you fellow Americans? I love the sound of the name and don’t really care as we wouldn’t actually be naming him after [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_m]Beckham[/name_m].

Give it to me straight!

Thanks!

[name_f]My[/name_f] only association with the name is [name_m]David[/name_m] and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_m]Beckham[/name_m], and it’s an extremely strong association. I am in [name_u]California[/name_u]. In my honest opinion, I don’t consider the name very usable for a first name. And if I met a baby [name_m]Beckham[/name_m], I’d assume without even asking that the baby was named after [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_m]Beckham[/name_m] because the parents were fans.

The [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_m]Beckham[/name_m] connection is very strong. I am from [name_f]England[/name_f] but I believe that he is well known internationally. Have you ever considered Breckon/[name_m]Breccan[/name_m]? [name_m]Beckham[/name_m] would be okay if it were a well known surname and I know you are not actually naming him after [name_m]David[/name_m] but I think the rest of the world will.

If you are ok with answering the question “Did you name him after [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_m]Beckham[/name_m]?” all the time then I would use it. If I love a name enough, I would use it regardless. I think it is cute!

It is a very strong association, but people are using the name, so… Personally i prefer [name_m]Beckett[/name_m].

Have you researched your child’s genealogy for attractive surnames that would be more meaningful?

Thanks, everyone! We have researched our genealogy (Swedish, Belgian, some [name_m]German[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] dad was adopted so we’re not sure with him…), and the names are either pretty common or way too weird. We’ll probably end up going with another name we both really like, but we just wanted to eliminate as many other “maybes” as possible
