Is Blair overstepping the mark?

I know many Berries oppose boys names being used on girls, but what [name]Blair[/name]/[name]Blaire[/name], in particular? Is it all boy or unisex? And don’t worry I have no intention of using it as a fn  just curious as a mn.

I really like [name]Blaire[/name] for a girl, as long as you put the -e on the end. [name]One[/name] of my childhood/neighborhood friends was named [name]Blaire[/name]. I think it’s a lovely name for a little girl.
[name]Blaire[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Blaire[/name], as well as [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Blaire[/name] would balance out the not as feminine name, and would be a good balance. I think it’s a very professional name, and would be sweet on a two year old and perfect on a CEO.

love,

It’s a lovely name. I don’t really pay attention to the gender rule. Name yor children whatever you love. [name]Blair[/name] is beautiful on either a girl or a boy. I prefer it more on a girl though because I associate the name with juicystar07. It would make a great middle. Very unexpected and pretty.

I taught a sweet little girl named [name]Blair[/name] (no e) and I am forever smitten with the name.

I have only ever met one [name]Blair[/name] in real life, and there is a [name]Blair[/name] on the movie [name]Christmas[/name] with the Kranks, and both are girls. I thought [name]Blair[/name] was a girl’s name!

I know a girl named [name]Blair[/name], so I think it’s fine, but I will always prefer the rhyming [name]Claire[/name].

I think it’s fine, it was always a boys name to me growing up.

Because it’s so close to [name]Claire[/name], and due to the popular Gossip Girl character, I’m used to it being a girls name now.

I don’t know if it’s actually unisex or not, but it feels like another [name]Ashley[/name]/[name]Aubrey[/name] to me. Originally male, but now very much female/unisex.
I like [name]Blair[/name] a lot, it’s more refreshing than [name]Claire[/name].

Generally [name]Blaire[/name] is the female spelling, [name]Blair[/name] is mostly used for boys. [name]Blair[/name] is a surname name so it’s always been unisex. Also it’s never ranked high enough for either gender for it to belong to either side. I know a lot of younger people think girl because of Gossip Girl but just as many people think boy because of [name]Blair[/name] Underwood and [name]Tony[/name] [name]Blair[/name]

Definitely unisex, and I actually prefer it on a girl.

I prefer it without the e though, because with the e it reminds me too much of blare, which would be silly if she’s quiet and shy

I prefer [name]Claire[/name] or [name]Blythe[/name] to [name]Blair[/name].

But I don’t think [name]Blair[/name] is unusable as a girls’ MN.

I dislike [name]Blair[/name], but don’t think of it as a “boy” name but rather unisex.

But then, I prefer [name]Elliott[/name] for a girl than a boy so you might want to discoubt my opinion.

I thought it sounded like more of a boy’s name, but once I started thinking about it I like it more on a girl. It sounds like [name]Claire[/name]. I think I’d prefer the spelling without the e, [name]Blair[/name].
I don’t get why people are okay with this name but in forums about the name [name]Salem[/name], they’re all upset about the [name]Salem[/name] Witch Trial association. What about the [name]Blair[/name] Witch project? People died there too. Are people just less familiar with it? Ok, rant over.

Gotta admit that I quite like [name]Salem[/name] as a name, at least in terms of the aesthetics and out of a slightly morbid fascination with the trials - but will answer your question anyway. It could be that people make a distinction between the [name]Salem[/name] Witch Trials, which were actually historical events, and the [name]Blair[/name] Witch Project, which is purely fictional.

I know 3 Blairs and all of them are girls! So I think it can definitely work as a girls name

Ha, it’s so Facts of Life.

I’m smitten with [name]Blair[/name] - for a girl. It’s nimble and sophisticated without being too condescending.

I think Gossip Girl made this firmly unisex. It’s not my cup of tea, but it’s not “overstepping”.

I think most people would assume upon hearing “[name]Blair[/name]” that you were speaking about a girl (at least in the US), and it does bear similarity to popular [name]Claire[/name]. I suppose if the boys aren’t using it anyway…? At least it doesn’t end in -son!

[name]Blair[/name] is a unisex name so I don’t think any “mark” is overstepped :). I wouldn’t put an “e” at the end of the name for either gender. I think it’s a modern invention that some parents utilize to make the name appear more “feminine” or “unique”.
