Is Briony too difficult?

I’m thinking of using [name_f]Briony[/name_f] as the name of a major character in my story, but I’m worried the name is too difficult. The pronunciation seems obvious to me, but Nameberry made such a big deal over it and it’s gotten me a li’l worried. What do you think?

I think it totally works! It seems very easy to pronounce to me and I wouldn’t worry about it.

[name_m]How[/name_m] is [name_f]Briony[/name_f] complicated in the slightest? Lol, it’s fine  People can work out how to say [name_m]Brian[/name_m], so they should have no problem with [name_f]Briony[/name_f].

I’d say that ever since Atonement, people would be familiar enough with [name_f]Briony[/name_f]. Such a great name.

I would much rather read a story about a girl named [name_f]Briony[/name_f] than a girl named [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or something popular or basic.

I fail to see how [name_f]Briony[/name_f] or [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] would be difficult? [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name choice

Thanks for all the replies. I’m still bouncing around a few other names I like ([name_f]Bree[/name_f] and [name_u]Bryn[/name_u], among others), but [name_f]Briony[/name_f] definitely seems to be a top choice at the mo

[name_f]My[/name_f] initial fear in using it was that people would mispronounce it as bree-oh-nee or brye-oh-nye or something else weird like that. But I guess I’m just over-thinking things, haha. Thanks for all the feedback.

I know a [name_f]Briony[/name_f] and she’s never had any trouble with it but she says it [name_f]Bree[/name_f]-oh-nee which I how I would pronounce it. [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] on the other hand I would say bry-an-ee.

You could clarify how to say it in the book. Like J.K. Rowling did with [name_f]Hermione[/name_f].
