Is Calliope too close to Kylie (for cousins)?

SO and I are going to start TTC next spring/summer, and we have agreed on Calliope (nicknames Posy and Pia) to likely be the FN should we have a daughter.

It just dawned on me that it may be too close in sound to my niece’s name, Kylie. She’s six though, so she’ll be a good bit older than our little one by time we have kids.

I don’t know if I’m just overthinking (as I tend to do). Though we have nicknames picked out that will be helpful, I’ll likely call her by her full name most of the time. If it makes a difference, my sister and I live in different states, so the kids would likely only see each other a few times a year and not all the time.

  • They’re not close at all for cousins, go for it!
  • They’re close in sound, but different enough to still use.
  • They’re too close to use for cousins, I’d go back to the drawing board.

I think it’s fine, especially with your nickname options!

Agreed with @Greyblue. Plus I do think it’s relevant that these cousins aren’t going to see each other constantly. It could get a bit tongue-twistery if they were together a lot, but it’s fine occasionally.

I have cousins names Grey and Grace… as well as Taylor, Tyler, Tanner, and Trevor… all on one side of the family. definitely not more confusing than that! :joy: I think it works great!

For distant age gap cousins there’s legit no issue. Go for it.

I think they could be sisters and it would be fine :joy: Especially with the nicknames you like.
