Getting my husband to agree to a boy’s name for our son due in Feb is very difficult but he likes [name_m]Calvin[/name_m]. I have a “nothing under 100” rule for names with respect to the social security list which [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] meets easily and it is not on the top 100 list for our state or nearby states. I haven’t heard the name used much in my social circles or on Facebook but a friend of mine said he heard of two baby Calvins in our area in a matter of weeks. [name_f]Do[/name_f] people think this is an overused name or one that is not rare but not super common either? My name was very popular and I am sick of being surrounded by women with the same name so I want to avoid him having to be one of three in his class at school, etc.
I definitely don’t think it’s an overly popular name. You said yourself you don’t have any Calvins in your social circle and it is well below the top 100. Though you may encounter another [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] in your life, it’s definitely not so popular that your son will be one of several Calvins in his class or throughout his life. I think it’s a great name!
[name_m]Calvin[/name_m] is gaining popularity. But I can assure you it will be nothing like the [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]'s of yester-year!
It’s impossible to assure you he’ll never have another [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] in his class, but it’s unlikely given the percentages.

I’ve never met a [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] and don’t consider it a popular name. However, I can imagine [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] might feel popular if you live in a more hipster area.
