I’m leaning between “yes” and “middle name only”. My main concern is because castor oil can be used as a constipation remedy (though I know it has other uses as well).

I think of [name_m]Castor[/name_m] and [name_m]Pollux[/name_m], the demigod sons of [name_m]Zeus[/name_m]. Works fine for me

The name [name_m]Castor[/name_m] reminds me of the Hunger Games, but that’s not a bad association. It gives me a modern/ strong/ cool vibe.

I totally think it works as a first name.

Probably usable? Safer in the middle than as a first name, though.

It has three immediate connotations for me, none of which are bad exactly, but they’re all very different. The first thing I think of is the beaver, and then the mythological twins (and related astronomical terms), and finally the oil/wax. The ‘beaver’ meaning is the strongest to me; I’d probably assume that someone called [name_m]Castor[/name_m]'s parents had a thing for the industrious animals. I’m Canadian, though, so my associations may be skewed

As a [name_u]Gemini[/name_u] I say yes ! I think [name_m]Castor[/name_m] works as a fn well though you can use it on middle spot if you have concerns - [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_m]Cassius[/name_m], [name_m]Caius[/name_m] and [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] are my suggestions as alternatives to [name_m]Castor[/name_m]

Yes, and I like it! Definitely more usable than [name_m]Pollux[/name_m], anyway…

[name_f]Glad[/name_f] to see this positive feedback!

I picked better in the middle, it just doesn’t sound very name-y to me. The castor oil association is also not great, because that and the constellation are its only thing. I think [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is more popular because it’s like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] but less popular, there’s the plant/fruit, and it’s a color. And it doesn’t relieve constipation.

I agree with this, and it’s really surprising to me that no one else mentioned beavers!

I think [name_m]Castor[/name_m] would make a lovely nature name in the middle slot - stronger and more distinctive than [name_m]Fox[/name_m] or [name_m]Wolf[/name_m].

I love [name_m]Castor[/name_m]! Which is weird since “castoras” means beaver in my native language. The first thing that comes to mind are [name_m]Castor[/name_m] and [name_m]Pollux[/name_m], not the oil. I think it’s a handsome, strong-sounding name that could work as a first name, especially with the nn [name_m]Cas[/name_m]

I voted yes. Its also the name of a star, which is what I first think of.

Yes! I know about the oil (which I don’t see as particularly negative) and I don’t know about beavers or whatever other connotations people have, but I really do think the sound is appealing.

[name_m]Castor[/name_m] oil is the first association for me. I think of castor oil more as a medicine; not at all like olive oil. I personally wouldn’t risk doing it as a first name, but maybe in the middle, especially if it’s a family name.

I can literally taste the castor oil in my mouth as I see the name. It’s a no for me, sorry!

Growing up with a last name that was always made fun of, I will tell you, kids will probably be mean and say he makes people poop… that, and a [name_m]Castor[/name_m] is also a wheel on the bottom of a chair. But, I am also a fan of unusual names, so if you absolutely love it, with no reservation, then have at it.

I definitely think it’s usable. It certainly is the more usable name between that and fabled brother [name_m]Pollux[/name_m], and I think it has an attractive sound.

As for people’s concerns around the castor oil reference, I don’t think kids will be privy to that info, and it’s more commonly used now in cosmetics and skincare so it’s possible even older kids would be unaware of it’s other uses.

And whike yes, it woukd be “safer” in the middle spit, that’s honestly never stopped me from using a name I love in the first spot.
