is Charlotte an "ette" name?

I like [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] and although they end with the et sound i don’t lump them with the ette names like annette, lynette, bernadette. is this silly? are these names, especially charlotte really ette names??

I consider them -et names because they end in an -et sound… so I lump them together. I like a lot of -et names though, my favorites being: [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Minette[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], Lunete, and [name]Evette[/name].

I know what you mean…I think the difference is that when you pronouce the names you listed, the emphasis is on the beginning of the name whereas with “ette” names like [name]Colette[/name] and [name]Anette[/name], the emphasis is on the ETTE.

This exactly. Most of the first names you listed, (even [name]Juliet[/name] depending on who’s saying it) have stress on the 1st syllable. Names that end in -ette typically have the stress on the last syllable. It completely changes the feel of the name if you ask me.

Personally, I lump [name]Charlotte[/name] in with names like [name]Violet[/name], [name]Scarlet[/name], [name]Harriet[/name], etc. Names like [name]Bernadette[/name], [name]Lynette[/name], [name]Annette[/name], [name]Collette[/name], etc are a whole different ball game to me.

Actually, I think I would pronounce [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Juliette[/name] different, and I never realized why until now:)
