i really like [name]Charlotte[/name] but sometimes feel like it might be too much of a name - too formal, not approachable unassuming enough. what do you think?
Not at all! I think [name]Charlotte[/name] is very approachable. It is formal and I wouldn’t necessarily call it “unassuming,” but I think it manages to balance professional and approachable.
[name]Cordelia[/name] is a nameberry favorite that I think may cross the line- I wouldn’t tell somebody not to use it because it is a nice name, but I think that’s more of a candidate for too formal. [name]Charlotte[/name] isn’t at all, especially with the nicknames.
i dont really like the nicknames so am just looking at it in its full form…
I don’t think [name]Charlotte[/name] is as formal as, say, [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Mary[/name]. It is an elegant name but not an overly formal one. In fact, isn’t [name]Charlotte[/name] a feminization that is a diminutive?
I think [name]Charlotte[/name] is pretty and approachable, like her namesake in [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name].
I don’t think so at all! It’s no longer (in sound) than something like [name]Ella[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Cara[/name], [name]Sophie[/name], [name]Avery[/name] (if you only say it with two syllables, anyway!), [name]Bailey[/name], [name]Kayleigh[/name], etc., and it’s more sweet/less formal than some classics like [name]Margaret[/name] or [name]Mary[/name], as the pp mentioned. I am biased, as it’s on my short list, but honestly, I would love to meet a [name]Charlotte[/name], and I would love to be able to use it! Plus, most of [name]Charlotte[/name]'s nicknames have just as many syllables as [name]Charlotte[/name] itself ([name]Charlie[/name], [name]Lola[/name], [name]Lottie[/name], etc.), so it doesn’t seem like it’s too much name/too long, either.
Good luck!
I don’t think it’s too much! To me it’s like [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Margot[/name], [name]Anna[/name], [name]Vivian[/name]…somewhat mature but sweet at the same time!
I understand what you mean but I don’t think [name]Charlotte[/name] is too much: this may be because I have known it on several little girls and once you get used to it on a baby it doesn’t hold the same formal-to-the-point-of-stuffy quality that some such classic names can.
@mill1020, I also associate it - happily - with [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name].
Not at all, i think it manages to bridge the way from babyhood to adulthood better than a lot of other names!
It’s not too much. It is a little formal but still approachable. Really nice name.
