I love the nn [name]Lottie[/name], but don’t know if [name]Charlotte[/name] is getting too popular at this point. Thoughts?
[name]Charlotte[/name] is popular (in numbers anyway I don’t know many) but not trendy. It’s far to of a classic name to be classed as trendy. The nn [name]Lottie[/name] is so sweet and almost never used so it will make your [name]Charlotte[/name] stand out from the others.
[name]Charlotte[/name] is perennially popular, in that it experiences peaks but even when not peaking remains constantly in frequent use. I’d put it more as a timeless classic than as trendy. [name]Lottie[/name] is adorable and most Charlottes I know don’t use it, so if that represents the [name]Charlotte[/name] population I’d put it down to 1 in 10 being Lotties, which is good odds for your [name]Lottie[/name].
I completely agree with this - [name]Charlotte[/name] will never be trendy because she’s such a classic name, and I think calling her [name]Lottie[/name] will make her stand out from her peers because it’s not a nickname I’ve heard used in real life (I’ve read about it in books, though).
[name]Charlotte[/name] is timeless, elegant, and beautiful. It’s a name that appeals to parents with a variety of naming styles, which accounts for [name]Charlotte[/name]'s current popularity.
In 2011, there were 6,365 Charlottes born in the US. Divide that by 50 and you have about 127 Charlottes per state. It isn’t as popular as it might appear if you’re only looking at rankings rather than number of births.
Using [name]Lottie[/name] as the nickname would stand out. Most parents using a nickname for [name]Charlotte[/name] are likely using [name]Charlie[/name].
It’s trendy. It’s under old vintage name trend and popular name trend.
This is graph where you can totally seen that name [name]Charlotte[/name] dropped after 1940 and started to rise 2000. So, it wasn’t constantly in frequent use as some people want to convince themselves. http://www.behindthename.com/top/name/charlotte
But, it was always between 45 rank and 160 rank. Only thing that change after 1940 is that people started using rarer names, so less people choose [name]Charlotte[/name] in favor more rarer name, but that reflect all popular names (like [name]Mary[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name]).
Agree with the previous posters. [name]Charlotte[/name] is timeless, [name]Lottie[/name] is a lovely classic nickname. I’d say [name]Charlotte[/name] with the nickname [name]Charlie[/name], or even worse [name]Charlie[/name] as a full name, is trendy. I’d love to meet a [name]Charlotte[/name] that didn’t go by [name]Charlie[/name] these days!!
I love the name [name]Charlotte[/name]! Not trendy at all. It’s a classic. I will most likely be using it as a middle name because it’s too close to my DD’s name. But it’s gorgeous, really. And [name]Lottie[/name] is so cute, love that nn
I don’t consider [name]Charlotte[/name] trendy, in fact I consider it a classic because it has been used somewhat commonly for over a 100 years.
Totally agree with the sentiments that [name]Charlotte[/name] is timeless and classic, not trendy. [name]Lottie[/name] is very cute as a nn too. If you wanted to be a little different, you could use [name]Carlotta[/name].
[name]Charlotte[/name] is not trendy. [name]Lottie[/name] is a cute nickname.
Definitely getting more popular, but it’s not trendy. Brynleigh would be a trendy name
Exactly - I don’t see old, established names as trendy, at least not in the same way stuff like Brynleigh is. Popular, for sure! But definitely not “trendy” at least not with the connotations that the word “trendy” brings to mind for most name nerds.
I say it’s trendy because it’s current rise in popularity coincided with the popularity of ‘Sex in the City’. In fact the show is the main reason that I can’t stand the name.
I’d say going no lower than 160 still means it was in frequent use. If it dropped to, say, below 500 or even out of the top 1000 altogether, I’d concede it wasn’t in frequent use at that point, but anything that’s stayed top 200 would still be in frequent use, even though it peaked and troughed within that margin.
I think [name]Charlotte[/name] is a cute name and if you love it, then go for it!! GL
I think it’s trendy or at least really popular because I see people mentioning it on Yahoo Answers all the time, and on here and on baby name polls.
[name]Charlotte[/name] isn’t trendy. [name]Isla[/name] is trendy. Look at the chart for that and compare it to [name]Charlotte[/name]. A name that’s constantly in the top 200 (such as [name]Charlotte[/name]), or something that’s risen in popularity slowly isn’t a trendy name, it’s just popular. A name that rises suddenly is trendy (such as [name]Isla[/name]).
[name]Charlotte[/name] is very popular but not trendy, it’s a classic name. I think [name]Charlotte[/name] is a beautiful name. I only know one [name]Charlotte[/name], but she just goes by her full name. Another nickname I’ve heard for [name]Charlotte[/name] is [name]Charlie[/name], very few Charlottes will go by [name]Lottie[/name], so that would make it more unique for your daughter.
Not a favorite of mine, but cannot deny that [name]Charlotte[/name] is classic and quite lovely. Popular? Yes and I can see her continuing to rise to the top. Trendy? No.
