“The fictional detective [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] [name_f]Starling[/name_f] may not have been murdered by [name_m]Hannibal[/name_m] Lecter, but her name unfortunately was.” says the Nameberry commentary. Has [name_f]Silence[/name_f] of the Lambs really made [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] unusable?
I’m not sure if it’s just the movie. The name feels dated to me regardless.
Personally I wouldn’t use it, I would get so tired of the whole ‘Hello, [name_f]Clarice[/name_f]’ comments.
I am a teen and I have only heard the name [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] in [name_m]Rudolph[/name_m] and in [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] (spelled [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f]) coming from a kid perspective it is 100% usable.
I think it’s a pretty name…as long as you’re prepared for the “Hello, [name_f]Clarice[/name_f]” stuff. I know of one young girl named [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] right now and she’s adorable. So maybe that’s helped the name’s image for me personally? I probably wouldn’t use it, but I still appreciate it as a pretty name.
I love this name. This is the name I chose for myself in my high school [name_m]French[/name_m] class, but as [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f]. Yes, I knew the books/movies (and I quite like them), but it is good name and I would totally use it.
[name_f]Clarice[/name_f] is totally usable to me, but I don’t know of the [name_f]Silence[/name_f] of the Lambs association. My first and only association with it is [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f] from [name_f]Princess[/name_f] Diaries.
I think it’s totally usable. Nearly 15 years ago, I was an assistant preschool teacher the summer before I went to college. It’s was an upscale town and a very upscale preschool. One of the little girls was named [name_f]Clarice[/name_f]. She went by Rici. She was so cute and it made me love the name. [name_f]Silence[/name_f] of the Lambs didn’t even cross my mind way back then so it definitely doesn’t now.
Sure, there will be adults that will think of it, but who cares? What matters is HER generation and it won’t even be a blip on their radar. It’s a great name and I would definitely use it.
I just watched the movie recently but have no idea what [name_f]Pam[/name_f] and [name_f]Linda[/name_f] are talking about. I liked her character.
People might think of [name_f]Silence[/name_f] of the Lambs at first, but I don’t think the association is too strong. It’s definitely still usable, and it’s a beautiful name! Anyway, [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] is a great character - she’s smart and brave and very likeable.
I never saw the movie so I don’t have the association at all. I think [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] is pretty!
Well I have never seen the film so to me it would bear no resemblance whatsoever. It is actually my auntie’s name - spelt [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f]. However an old college used to pronounce my name ([name_f]Carys[/name_f]) in a way that rhymed with [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] just to annoy me - and mock the film. So, yeah…its not my name…yet I still got the jokes!
[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: Also - because my auntie spells it differently, and when I was younger I read a book with the name [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] I always pronounced that spelling as [name_u]Clair[/name_u]-rice - I much prefer that!
It’s usable though I much prefer [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f] myself.
I think it’s beautiful!
This exactly. I’ve never seen [name_f]Silence[/name_f] of the Lambs, so I don’t have the association. I definitely think of these first. I don’t think [name_f]Silence[/name_f] has made [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] unusable. [name_m]Hannibal[/name_m], yeah. [name_m]Even[/name_m] I know [name_m]Hannibal[/name_m] Lecter. But I think [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] is okay, if a little outdated, but definitely usable.
[name_f]Silence[/name_f] of the lambs …my first thought when I hear the name.
When I was growing up old people always used to tell me I looked like [name_u]Jodie[/name_u] [name_m]Foster[/name_m]. One of my uncles would always say “Hello [name_f]Clarice[/name_f]” to me in this creepy [name_f]Silence[/name_f] of the Lambs voice. It wasn’t even my name and it drove me crazy, I can’t imagine hearing that all the time. I think it’s very linked to [name_f]Silence[/name_f] of the Lambs, but when people meet your kid they’ll think of her instead, and it’s a pretty name.
