Is Eleanor too old-fashioned?

Lately this name has been growing on me,but I wonder if it’s too…old fashioned. My mum thinks it absolutely dreadful and I’m kind of split on it.(it’s always been a GP)Thanks!

Definitely not! [name]Eleanor[/name] is a gorgeous classic name and its actually been rising a lot in popularity in the last few years. It also has popular nn’s like [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Ella[/name], and [name]Nora[/name] if you felt that [name]Eleanor[/name] by itself sounded too old fashioned.

Not at all! I adore [name]Eleanor[/name]. I find it more classic than fusty, plus it comes with plenty of nicknames to jazz it up. I will admit that [name]Elinor[/name] looks a lot more youthful though.

I like [name]Eleanor[/name]. I think it sound smart and sophisticated but with the cute nicknames like [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Elle[/name], [name]Ella[/name], [name]Lea[/name], [name]Nora[/name]…they all make it spunky for a child.

I think [name]ELeanor[/name] itself sounds too old-fashioned but if the child typically goes by [name]Ellie[/name] or [name]Nora[/name] then its nice. To me [name]ELeanor[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name] and [name]Lillian[/name] go together in that they still sound stale to me but have nice nicknames if the nicknames are used exclusively. SOrry, just being honest, these are names my husband liked so my reaction is fresh.

Dislike [name]Eleanor[/name]. It does seem old fashioned to me, and [name]IMO[/name] not very pretty. But if it’s a name YOU love, that is all that’s important

[name]Love[/name] it and would use it in a heartbeat, no hesitations!

I absolutely adore [name]Eleanor[/name]! It’s on my top 10. I used to feel it was dreadfully old-fashioned, too, but it’s very much in style again and I would be so excited to meet a little [name]Eleanor[/name], haha. I think it’s fabulous. I love the nns [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Lena[/name] for it, but there are so many other great ones to make it more usable–[name]Norah[/name], [name]Norie[/name], [name]Rory[/name], [name]Lea[/name], [name]Leni[/name], [name]Eleni[/name], [name]Ellen[/name], [name]Elena[/name], [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Elle[/name], [name]Nell[/name], [name]Nellie[/name], etc. I think it’s so sweet.

I think the fact that it has that strong, vintage, maybe even old-lady sort of feel that it needs a modern mn, something with a bit of quirk to give it some life. Something like [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Kaia[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Wren[/name], or [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Primrose[/name], imo…

[name]Eleanor[/name] is one of my very favorites too. Mostly I like it because of the strong women in history who have had this name-- [name]Eleanor[/name] of [name]Aquitaine[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Roosevelt[/name] in particular. But I also like all the different nns too!

[name]Love[/name] it! Beautiful, Sophisticated and classic!! So many great nn’s from [name]Ellie[/name] to [name]Nora[/name], it’s a winner in my book!

It’s a super name. It’s not dreadful at all. I love [name]Nora[/name] as the nn

It’s an especial favourite of mine.

I think it’s back with a vengeance. I personally know of three Eleanors born in the past 12 months.

That said, I don’t really love it. It feels very plain to me, in the same way as [name]Helen[/name] or [name]Sarah[/name]. I don’t picture an [name]Eleanor[/name] being very sparky or pretty, but that’s a very personal reaction.

I think [name]Eleanor[/name] is great, and I like a lot of its variations, too ([name]Leonor[/name], Eilionoir, [name]Eleonora[/name], Elionor)
It feels a little old fashioned, but I love that in a name, so I don’t see it as a negative at all. It’s more classic & charming than old, I think.

[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]!! Its like when [name]Annabel[/name] came ‘back in fashion’, everybody was like, “Um…is this dated?” We were all like “No way, [name]Jose[/name]!”

It maybe be my 84 year old great grandmother’s middle name, but it is such a great name these days. I will probably aged in 50 years, but 20 years later, it will probably come back.

I really dislike [name]Eleanor[/name], it reads old lady to me. However I like the name [name]Elle[/name] and [name]Nora[/name].
