So I met a baby named [name]Eliza[/name] a few days ago and absolutely fell in love! I came up with the combo [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] and when I mentioned it to my husband he liked it too (which never happens). The only problem is that my name is [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I go almost exclusively by [name]Lizzy[/name]. So my question…is [name]Eliza[/name] a complete no-no? Thanks in advance!
I would say it is off limits, sadly. An [name]Eliza[/name] can choose to go by [name]Liz[/name] or [name]Lizzie[/name] as a nickname. If you went by a variation of [name]Beth[/name], like [name]Bess[/name] or [name]Betsy[/name], then perhaps it could work. Plus, will your name appear on class rosters as [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Lizzy[/name] as the parent contact? [name]Eliza[/name] is a great name, but it’s too close to [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]IMO[/name].
I think [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] is pretty sweet. [name]Plenty[/name] of children get their parents’ names. This would be a subtle way to pass on your name, and I do think it has a completely different feeling than [name]Elizabeth[/name].
I love [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]! So sweet and [name]Jane[/name]-[name]Austen[/name]-like. Honestly, I wouldn’t be too put off by [name]Lizzy[/name] and her daughter [name]Eliza[/name]–the “I” sounds in the middle are different, and if she wants a nn she could easily be [name]Ella[/name]/[name]Ellie[/name]/[name]Elle[/name] or [name]Liza[/name] (or even [name]Lila[/name], which is a stretch, but if [name]Charlotte[/name] can get [name]Lola[/name] I think [name]Eliza[/name] can get [name]Lila[/name]). Besides, she might like having the connection to her mom.
I think it is great! I wouldn’t consider it off limits. You could always use [name]Ellie[/name]/[name]Ella[/name]/[name]Zaza[/name] etc as nicknames for [name]Eliza[/name], since you already go by [name]Liz[/name]/[name]Lizzy[/name].
It’s close, of course, but I think the difference in the vowel sound sets them apart. It’s a cute way to sort-of name your daughter after yourself without causing inordinate confusion. You would definitely have to avoid [name]Liz[/name]/[name]Lizzie[/name] as nicknames for her, but that shouldn’t be that difficult under the circumstances.
I think it’s fine too, some people may definitely notice, especially if she goes by [name]Liza[/name] and you go by [name]Lizzy[/name]. But, if it doesn’t bother you, then who cares, enjoy it!
Thank you so much for responding so quickly!! I’m thrilled I hear that I’m not totally crazy for considering it!I agree that they have a totally different feel. It is the first time a name has felt totally “right”. My husband loves [name]Lila[/name] and I do as well, but I really worry about the trendiness. I love the idea of [name]Lila[/name] being a possible nickname for [name]Eliza[/name] later on. My husband tends to like trendier names and so far the only other name he hasn’t vetoed has been [name]Clara[/name] (he thinks my names are crazy lol). Thanks for your help!
I think [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] is such a pretty name! And I actually think it’s a neat connection between your name and [name]Eliza[/name]. Sons get their father’s names all the time, so why not a little [name]Eliza[/name] named after her mother [name]Elizabeth[/name] “[name]Lizzy[/name]?” I think it’s really sweet!
I think that it’s great. It isn’t as if her name would be [name]Elizabeth[/name] as well. [name]Eliza[/name] is just different enough that it won’t be a big deal. [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] is a beautiful name, and since both you and your husband love it, go for it!
A lot of parents will put their own name somewhere in the babies name, so I don’t its weird. And [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] is adorable.
I don’t think it’s too close - it would only be a problem if they were going to get confused. This wouldn’t happen on forms because they are different names, it wouldn’t happen in conversation because the “I” sound is different and you could easily give her a nick name other than [name]Liz[/name] or [name]Lizzie[/name] if she wanted a nick name. I personally actually really like the connection between the 2 names as mother and daughter.
