Is Elsa too Snow Queen?

I recently rewatched [name_m]Born[/name_m] [name_u]Free[/name_u] after several years. It was my favourite book and movie as a child, and I adored the name [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]. I was convinced for several years that someday I would have two daughters, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]. Rewatching the movie rekindled my love for [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], but now Frozen exists and [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] seems strongly tied to that. Would everyone’s first assumption be the Disney movie? [name_m]Will[/name_m] that association fade in time or will everyone think of the Frozen character first?

I think a lot of people would think of the Frozen movies and I don’t think that’s going to go away completely. I don’t personally make that association first, I mainly just think of it as a names but maybe that’s because I’ve only seen frozen once years ago?
I don’t think it’s a bad association and I think with the growing popularity of [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], it doesn’t sound too attached to the Disney franchise.
Not sure if others will agree though

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] & [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are lovely. I do think that [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is sort of associated w/the Frozen movies. Especially for little girls, but it’s not a bad thing. You’d be hard pressed to find a little girl these days who wouldn’t want to be named [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]!

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

I do think [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is primarily associated with Frozen. It will probably stay that way for a while. However, I know a couple [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]'s because I grew up in heavily Scandinavian migrated area so the association isn’t as strong for me. I think it is beautiful.

I do think of Frozen when I hear [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], however, that is because I’ve never heard the name anywhere else. I’m sure down the road you’ll come across people that will instantly associate [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] to Frozen, but there will also be alot of people that wont.

I heard the name [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] a few years ago and I thought it was the sweetest name, yet it still made me think of Frozen.

Go for the name that you love!

Never saw the film. Only know of association because of this site.

Thank you everyone! I think I’m going to add it to my list again

I’ve been loving this name too and wondering the same thing! It’s my favorite diminutive of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and I’ve always wanted use at an honor name. But I also have a 5 year old SD, so there will always be lots of little girls hanging around that know and adore [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]. On the other hand, my favorite Disney movie as a child (in the 90s) was The [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid, and I knew girls named [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]. It was never a big deal to me.

I don’t think [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is ‘too [name_f]Snow[/name_f] [name_f]Queen[/name_f]’. Yes, the association’s there, but it was a fairly common name (or nickname) in it’s own right way before Frozen, so it’s not exactly Frozen-only territory. I’d say you’d definitely get some Frozen associations from people, especially if that’s the only association they have with the name, but that would be a quick comment and you’d all move on. I don’t think it’d be a big deal.

I think [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] make for a gorgeous sister duo.

Frozen is my first association, but that isn’t a bad one. I think it will last a long time, just like [name_f]Belle[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], and Mulan.

In my country [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is a common old lady name so I don’t associate it with frozen, but I suppose that’s what many people in countries where it’s not common will associate it with, but it doesn’t have to be a bad thing

I do think [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] will be forever associated with Frozen, like [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] is with the [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid. However, I haven’t met a little girl yet who didn’t completely love [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]. I think most little girls would be thrilled to be associated with [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] from Frozen. All that to say, It’s a great name apart from the character & I don’t think the association should stop you from using it. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] are lovely together!

[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] just makes me think of Die kluge [name_f]Else[/name_f], but it might be a European thing only.

I remember watching [name_m]Born[/name_m] [name_u]Free[/name_u] as a child as well! I don’t think the Disney association makes [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] off-limits. I understand that Frozen is extremely popular among children and teenagers, but the name [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] has existed for a long time and has other associations for me. It’s not like Disney invented it.
