[name_f]Etta[/name_f] has been my top name for a long time. I know ultimately it doesn’t matter, but I have an aqquaitence that has a baby named [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. I am worried she will think I copied the name since they are close. I keep trying to remind myself that when I first found the name, the similarity didn’t even cross my mind because they are so different sounding. What do you guys think?
It’s not too close for children of acquaintances! It sounds like she is not an enduring part of your life.
I don’t think they’re too similar. I love the name [name_f]Etta[/name_f]!
I think it’s fine. For siblings they would be too close.
Thank you all for your replies, really helps having an outsiders opinion. I am glad you all think that they aren’t too close!
I agree with the PPs, they are fine as acquaintances!
Use it. It’s not too similar.
Etta has a totally different vibe than [name_f]Emma[/name_f] to me
Etta and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] have very different feels
If they were sisters they’d be too close, but not in this case.
If they were siblings or close relatives, they would be too similar, but not in this case. I would go for it!
I agree with @UnderTheRainbow and @Greyblue, they have similar sounds but they feel like totally different styles so I think you’re okay. It’s not like [name_f]Eve[/name_f] and [name_f]Eva[/name_f], for example. (Although if I’m honest I’d still probably say that’s fine, you love the name so use it!)
I’d say yes but I like both names
Welcome to Nameberry, @Yoda890!
I agree that [name_f]Etta[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] are certainly different enough for acquaintances’ daughters. Too close for sisters, perhaps, but totally fine for you to use [name_f]Etta[/name_f] in these circumstances.
I really, really love [name_f]Etta[/name_f], by the way It’s so sweet and feisty and retro in a really cool way. Great choice!
I don’t think they’re too similar. The actual sounds of the name sound quite different to me. If they were siblings it might cause me pause, but just being friends I think it’s perfectly fine!
Etta is an adorable name as well!
