Is Eva too associated with the Biblical Eve? 🍎

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!
For me, [name_f]Eva[/name_f] (and Evie) is very much a seperate name to the Biblical [name_f]Eve[/name_f], but I’d love to know your thoughts. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think of [name_f]Eve[/name_f] from the Bible when you hear the name [name_f]Eva[/name_f]?
Thanks! :sparkles:

Ya, but that’s because I like to think about all aspects of a name for some reason. I think you should ask someone else.

I do not think of [name_f]Eve[/name_f] when I hear “Eva”

I don’t associated [name_f]Eva[/name_f] with the Biblical [name_f]Eve[/name_f], personally.

Definitely not, I know enough people with names like it that I have other associations, and has a different enough vibe that it feels separate.

I don’t associate [name_f]Eva[/name_f] with [name_f]Eve[/name_f] from the Bible

Definitely not! I think of [name_f]Eva[/name_f] Longoria!

I don’t associate them

I don’t associate [name_f]Eva[/name_f] with [name_f]Eve[/name_f], to the extent that when I met a Polish family with twins named [name_m]Adam[/name_m] and [name_f]Eva[/name_f], it didn’t even occur to me that they were named after the Biblical [name_m]Adam[/name_m] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] until their mum pointed it out to me.

It doesn’t make me think of [name_f]Eve[/name_f]. It reminds me of [name_f]Eva[/name_f] Perón more but that’s still not an overwhelming association. Such a lovely name

No. I don’t even think about it. When I think of Eva I don’t think of any association.

If I have to, the first people in my mind are a friend that I had back in middle school, Eva Braun, another young woman I know, and then maybe Eva Mendes. I mean, the only potentially negative association for me here is Braun.

Plus for me Eve from the Bible is not a negative figure. And even Delilah/Dalila and Lilith get people named after that.

I know they’re associated and linked but I wouldn’t assume someone had called their daughter [name_f]Eva[/name_f] after [name_f]Eve[/name_f] in the Bible, if that makes sense. (and if it helps, I knew a [name_m]Christian[/name_m] family, very involved in their church and faith, who had a daughter called Eva)

I don’t see why it even matters. [name_m]Plenty[/name_m] of people give their children biblical names, whether they are religious or not. No one would automatically consider you named your daughter [name_f]Eva[/name_f] because of the biblical [name_f]Eve[/name_f]. I don’t even think they would if you actually used [name_f]Eve[/name_f] itself!

I don’t associate [name_f]Eve[/name_f] itsself with the bible. I associate it with the time of day (evening).

So I wouldn’t associate [name_f]Eva[/name_f] with anything.

Honestly… it would never cross my mind unless someone told me that was why they’d called their daughter [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. Also I associate [name_f]Eve[/name_f] more with [name_f]Christmas[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] or [name_m]New[/name_m] Year’s Eve… I think that’s just because I’m an atheist :joy:

I do associate Eva with the biblical character, but my first language is Portuguese and Eva is the name of “our” biblical character. Adam and Eve are Adão and Eva for us. Eva is the variant used in multiple languages like Spanish, Norwegian, German, Italian, Dutch, Bulgarian, Icelandic, Czech, Armenian and others.

I don’t believe it is easy to dissociate Eva from the bible. However, would Eve/Eva from the bible be my first thought? Probably not! I know two Evas and as far as I know they’re not religious. Perhaps their parents are religious, but I don’t have that information. Anyway, firstly, I associate the name Eva with the two women I know. They have very distinct personalities, by the way. Afterwards, I will think about the biblical character, Eva Longoria, Eva Mendes or Eva Perón.

There are many names that I associate with biblical characters or religious symbols, that are used by non religious parents frequently. For example, Mary/ Maria/ Marie, Joseph/ Joe/ José, Faith, Hope, Sky/ Cielo, Noah/ Noa, Moses, Angel/ Angela/ Angelina, Gloria, Adam, Mercy, Magdalena / Magdalene, Heaven, etc.

no it’s a distinct name for me !! i know a lot of girls called eva, so it feels like a fun and familiar name, nothing to do with eve really.

For me, no. I mean, I’m aware that Eva is the name for the Biblical Eve in Latin (and in various other languages) but it’s not an immediate, overwhelming association. I actually associate the name more with celebrities named Eva e.g. Eva Mendes, Eva Green, Eva Longoria.

For me it’s the same as asking if Rachel or Raquel is too associated with the Biblical Rachel. Some people might assume you were inspired by the Bible, but at the same time, it is a fairly standard and common name.

To me [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] are too completely different names with different feels, so no I would not. (I’m not religious though, so even when I heard [name_f]Eve[/name_f] I probably would not think of the bible right away.)

I think that even if people did think of that connection, they would not assume that an [name_f]Eva[/name_f] was religious or had religious parents just because she was named [name_f]Eva[/name_f].

I love your new profile pic by the way! <3
