Is Evaan a girl's name in America?

I am planning to name my baby boy Evaan. Is it considered a girl’s name in [name_u]America[/name_u]??

Is this supposed to be [name_u]Evan[/name_u]? Because I’d pronounce [name_u]Evan[/name_u] and Evaan differently. If it’s [name_u]Evan[/name_u], then definitely not, I can’t even imagine [name_u]Evan[/name_u] on a girl. If it’s supposed to be Evaan then I’d say it ev-[name_f]ANN[/name_f] and I find that pronunciation feminine.

To me Evaan looks Maybe [name_f]Indian[/name_f] Or Something to me and I could see about 12 different pronunciations and I would honestly be a little unsure of the gender.

[name_u]Evan[/name_u], on the other hand, is a regular American guy name, although it’s been used, albeit rarely, for girls. I’d be less surprised to me a female [name_u]Evan[/name_u] than a female [name_m]Walter[/name_m], but it’d still be very unusual.

[name_u]Evan[/name_u] is a boy name in [name_u]America[/name_u]

I have never heard of Evaan however, and unsure of how to pronounce it

No it’s not, [name_u]Evan[/name_u] is a boy name here and Evaan is hardly used and therefore is not thought of as a girl or boy’s name

There is a little girl [name_u]Evan[/name_u] in my son’s daycare class so it is used on girls, I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s considered a girls name here though. For the most part it will definitely be a boy’s name.

Thanks for your reply. We are considering Evaan, not [name_u]Evan[/name_u].

@greta-elizabeth yeah we are thinking of a name which is heard of in both indian and american context.

pronunciation wise, it would be e-vaa-an. I know its male’s name in [name_f]India[/name_f], but I would like to know how would an american pronounce “Evaan” and would that make it more feminine?

If its [name_f]Eva[/name_f]-ann thats definitely feminine.

Thanks

I’ve never met anyone with this name so I’d say people might not be sure of gender, but I don’t see why anyone would assume feminine.

It is used on girls but considered a boy’s name.

[name_u]Evan[/name_u] is 100% a boy’s name.

I would assume it’s a boys name. Not knowing the name, I would probably pronounce it Ee-vahn or Ay-vahn.

I would either say ev-[name_f]ANN[/name_f], like I said, or I would say ev-ONN (like [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] with an E). Either way, it sounds feminine to me with the emphasis on the second syllable. I’m from the Midwest, if that helps.

I know boys named [name_u]Evan[/name_u] and I suppose some girls are named that, but the extra a is not appealing to me. Sounds like a misspelled [name_u]Evian[/name_u] water.

[name_u]Evan[/name_u] hasn’t reached the “unisex” or “girls only” status yet which is surprising. Evaan looks like an attempt at feminizing [name_u]Evan[/name_u] and looks like it may be pronounced differently than [name_u]Evan[/name_u]

Because Evaan is not a common name in [name_u]America[/name_u], I think most people who see it written (not hearing it spoken) would pronounce it with a short A with just the two syllables: ehv-ahn or eh-vahn. I think people would not assume three syllables, with each A getting it’s own sound; that’s just not really done in English.

The sound of Evaan might be closer to girl names such as [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f], so it might seem more like a girl’s name to some people. However, it’s clearly not an English name, so maybe people will wait to meet the kid or hear clarifying pronouns.

If your goal is to find a name that transitions easily between English and [name_f]Indian[/name_f], I’m not sure you’ve found a perfect fit.

I would assume Evaan was a girl, yes. Perhaps use [name_u]Evan[/name_u] for your little one?? It will stop the confusion…

Thank you everyone!!

No, definitely not.
