Is Evelina the new Ophelia?

I feel like [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] has absolutely EXPLODED in the forums the last couple of weeks. It is EVERYWHERE. And I ain’t complaining, at the moment I am completely enamored. But I feel like it could be the new [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], and here’s why.

I feel like [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] also had a moment some 3-4 years ago when everyone was talking about it and everyone was suggesting it. I think [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] are similiar names in that they give off the same imagery to me, are fairly international and quite whimsical and romantic in style. I feel like [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] might have the same path to fame that [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] had, going from relatively unknown to actually being used IRL and gaining popularity. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] presents a nice alternative to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] does the same to [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u].

What are your thoughts on it? How do you feel about [name_f]Evelina[/name_f], would you like to see it used more often?

[name_f]Evelina[/name_f] has always been popular here in [name_u]Sweden[/name_u] where I am from. I know a few older people with that name (teachers and friends parents) so to me it does not feel new at all.
I think [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is okay. Its pretty but does not have a very special sound. But I would be happy to see it used more internationally

I agree with you that [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] has been around a lot recently! I’ve had her on my list for a long time  I do think it could make a lovely alternative to [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], which is also a gorgeous name!

I’m in the same boat with @helenarosa - where I’m from, [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] (or Eveliina, really) was common in the 80s/90s, so it doesn’t really have the same whimsical and romantic vibes as [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] to me!

I do agree that it’s gaining a lot of momentum right now, though. I think SJ Strum (a baby name youtuber) using it on her daughter has given it a boost, also.

I love [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] - it’s one my top names for a baby girl! I first saw it a few years ago, through a Swedish social media personality. I think it’s beautiful and I love the nickname possibilities of [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lina[/name_f].

I can see it getting more popular in English-speaking countries, though perhaps not to the same level as [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] since [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is less familiar and doesn’t have the [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] association. I think [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is a bit too unusual and different to appeal to your average parent (though maybe that’s just my biased perception ).

I think they have a similar sound/vibe (as an American who does not have the Scandi association). But, if Evelina becomes more popular, I think it will be because of the popularity of Evelyn.

I think Evelina is popular on NB because of SJ Strum’s Evelina Blossom (just a lovely combo). Not sure how much it’ll translate to “real life” though.

Ophelia is getting that Shakespeare boost, that Lumineers boost, and that alternative to Sophie/Sophia boost that Evelina doesn’t have.

Haha, I am glad to hear that

I admit, I haven’t seen it much, but this makes sense. [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] names in general are having their moment. Parents might like the sound, but not the popularity, so why not go for the similar [name_f]Evelina[/name_f]? It’s like how [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] has become an alternative to the more popular [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] or how [name_f]Joanne[/name_f] took over after [name_u]Joan[/name_u] was popular.

I didn’t know [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] was the new name! I’m glad if [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] replaces it. Not because I like it so much but because the dead [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] in [name_m]Hamlet[/name_m] is too much for me.

[name_f]Evelina[/name_f] was on my list back in 2014 or so, I loved the overly feminine names! I still think it’s very pretty!
