I have loved the name [name_f]Flo[/name_f] since I was six but when I was nine I began to feel I couldn’t use it because of [name_f]Flo[/name_f] [name_f]Rida[/name_f] I have began loving [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and would use [name_f]Flo[/name_f] as a nickname. I hadn’t heard the Aunty [name_f]Flo[/name_f] thing before posting a thread on names ruined by pop culture, I am in Australia not [name_u]America[/name_u] though. My main issue is [name_f]Flo[/name_f] [name_f]Rida[/name_f] he’s been around since I was 9 and I’m now 14 and is probably the best well known rapper in Australia most of his songs have charted here.
Is [name_f]Flo[/name_f] usable as a nickname for [name_f]Florence[/name_f]?
@[name_f]Sarah[/name_f] I’ve never ever heard Aunt [name_f]Flo[/name_f] before so I don’t think of it @lesliemarion [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Flossie[/name_f] are WORSE then [name_f]Flo[/name_f] to me [name_f]Flossie[/name_f] makes me think of dental floss and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is too [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Fauna[/name_f]
I am also a lover of [name_f]Flo[/name_f] so sweet and spunky! Aunt [name_f]Flo[/name_f] does put a damper on it an may, depending on where you live, could make for an embarrassing Sex [name_m]Ed[/name_m]. so it just depends on where you are. That’s the great thing about nicknames when she gets older she can always go by her full name or something else!
I love the name [name_f]Florence[/name_f] because it feels so romantic! I think [name_f]Flo[/name_f] is fine and I don’t think anyone will connect the 2. I do like the other nickname suggestions better though.
I think so. It’s not my cup of tea, but if you like it. When I think of [name_f]Flo[/name_f] [name_f]Rida[/name_f], I think: “Huh” and move on with my day. [name_f]Flo[/name_f] isn’t really associated with him for me.
I immediately thought of Aunt [name_f]Flo[/name_f] (getting your period). I think if even one person makes that connection (and then tells others), it would be hard during the teen years. [name_f]Flossie[/name_f] and [name_f]Florrie[/name_f] I really like.
@C@29 thanks @Dayken95: Thanks, thats why I would use Florence instead if just Flo @chelscole I don’t really like any other nicknames for Florence @Athena thanks, maybe I think of him because of how popular he used to be and kind of is still here. @Elo I’ve never heard anyone mention it but it could be awkward
You may not have heard of the phrase, but you’re fourteen. I guarantee it’s a well known euphemism that would leave a daughter prime for teasing in her childhood and teen years.
