To answer the popularity question: No, it’s not too popular. It is not even in the U.S. top 1,000. In 2014, 182 girls were given the name in the U.S. In 2015, that number increased to 214 girls given the name. So it is rising in popularity, and I do see it making it’s way into the top 1,000 in the next couple of years but I don’t see it becoming the next [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is a great name. It has the appealing Italian city association and there are tons of nickname options for it. I could see the name on a child and adult. I only know of one [name_f]Florence[/name_f] who is a toddler and she is beautiful. I can’t really think of any cons. [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is a lovely name!
Oh, no, not popular at all (yet)! The name itself is sort of growing on me, after hearing it so much (I’m a nursing student, so get to hear about [name_f]Florence[/name_f] Nightingale on a regular basis). It is a rather old-sounding name, but that is sort of the trend nowadays, so it wouldn’t be out of place, in my opinion. That would be the only ‘con’ I can think of, with the exception of the possibility of being called Aunt [name_f]Flo[/name_f] as a nickname. Other than that, I think it is a good name and grows well
I love it! My husband likes [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and I think [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is and great way to get that as a nickname. It’s botanical but also a place name. One of my top girl picks is [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] because of my grandmother. I think [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] would make an awesome subtle place-name sibset.
Not too popular in the US, it’s very popular in the UK currently (top 40 ish) but it was also in the top 40 in the UK in the 1900s so it’s a classic vintage rather than ‘trendy’ name. Regardless I absolutely love it, very elegant and pretty without being too frilly like all the popular ‘a’ or ‘ie’ ending girls names.
