I have added [name]Florian[/name] to my baby boy’s list. I think it is a great way to honor my bf’s mother [name]Flora[/name]. Only problem is my friend has commented that “it’s too feminine for a boy”. Is it?
[name]Florian[/name] is feminine, maybe a bit too much. It doesn’t have any masculine nicknames, just [name]Flora[/name], [name]Florrie[/name], [name]Lori[/name], ect. [name]Even[/name] with a really masculine nickname it’s a bit much. I would like it too, but I’ve resorted to using it as a chracter name only.
- [name]Athena[/name]
[name]Florian[/name] is a very popular boys name in Germany. We pronounce it a bit differen tho. Like Floor - iaahn …I personally love the name since i was a little child
i think it is a bit too feminine yes bit i cant think of anything else to use instead
I don’t see why it’s really any more feminine than the other -ian names like [name]Bastian[/name], [name]Damian[/name], [name]Julian[/name], Sebastain, [name]Dorian[/name]…All those are slightly more feminine than other boy names but no one complains about them.
I think it’s a fine boys name and it does have a masculine nickname, [name]Ian[/name]. With a strong masculine middle name he can fall back on in case, I think it’s a great way to honor you Bf’s mom.
I think it’s too feminine on the basis you can’t shorten it without it sounding girly? [name]Flo[/name], [name]Flora[/name]? While [name]Julian[/name] can be shortened to [name]Jules[/name]… so you’ll have to call him [name]Florian[/name] all the time.
i like it a lot, and don’t think its automatically girly. i’d give him a mn that people won’t have doubts about, and i’d maybe not even nickname him at all, at least not something based on his own name. If you’re introducing him and referring to him as [name]Florian[/name], people won’t automatically resort to shortening it.
I know a [name]Florian[/name] through a friend of a friend. I think it’s a really cool name (but prob. because he seems like a cool guy). I think [name]Ian[/name] and [name]Rory[/name] are two male nicknames for it, but I think [name]Florian[/name] as a full name works great, too.
It’s a male name, I don’t think it sounds feminine at all, same with [name]Dorian[/name]. I think both names sound handsome and dashing. Not all names need nicknames. If you must have a nickname you could go with Fen or [name]Fin[/name], but I don’t think a nickname is necessary.
I don’t think it’s feminine at all! I love [name]Florian[/name]
And I just wanted to add: judging by your signature, your baby is going to have a wonderful name!
I quite like it. [name]Florian[/name] is a boy’s name; [name]Flore[/name] or [name]Florence[/name] are girls’ (all of which are French).
I really do not find it feminine. I think it sounds like a cool guy.
Yes totally…not masculine at all
[name]Florian[/name] is pretty unisex for me. Growing up, I knew a woman named [name]Florian[/name] from the Philippines and I also knew a [name]German[/name] man named [name]Florian[/name]. In Europe, a male [name]Florian[/name] wouldn’t give people a second thought. In [name]North[/name] [name]America[/name], people may find it hard to wrap their head around.
Thanks everyone for the feedback! I think I will keep [name]Florian[/name] on the list for now and see what happens once the baby is born.
I can see why someone would think it’s too feminine, but I personally don’t see it as such. After all, there’s no law that says a person HAS to have a nickname. I think just plain [name]Florian[/name] is fine, really.
I love [name]Florian[/name]! I do see the feminine side to it, but it’s also undeniably masculine to me. I would love to meet a little [name]Florian[/name]. If people try and call him [name]Flore[/name]/[name]Flora[/name]/[name]Florrie[/name]/[name]Lori[/name]/[name]Lora[/name]/etc., you could probably use [name]Ian[/name] as a nn, which is undeniably masculine, imo.
Thanks for the feedback guys!
I know 2 Florians, one is about 25 the other is 10 or 11? I think it’s fine and easy to prn so if you love it then go for it!
I met a teenage boy named [name]Florian[/name] once (he was [name]German[/name]), and I was so thrilled. I think it’s great. Saying [name]Florian[/name] is feminine because it sounds like [name]Flora[/name] is like saying [name]Julian[/name] is feminine because it sounds like [name]Julie[/name].
