I personally dont think so at all but how would others perceive it? I think my biggest concern is it would be pronounced the same as [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] by some people and as it sounds quite similar whether he’d get teased for having a girly sounding name. I love the nn [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] too.
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] isn’t feminine at all. Nice name for a boy! [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] are pronounced quite differently.
I have an uncle [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] but everyone calls him [name_u]Gabi[/name_u]. (And if he has a son he and his wife will name him [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_m]Jr[/name_m]).I don’t really like the nn [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] because it’s nms. [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] is not feminized at all, in fact, the r sound makes it seem very sharp. I personally hate female names that are feminized from boy like [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f].
Go [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]!
Not feminine at all. I have one, and he is only called [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] by non-english speakers.
Nope! It’s a very strong, masculine name. My nephew is [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], and it’s awesome. He only gets called [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] occasionally, but that may change as he gets older. He’s only 6.
I think it is a great name! It falls in the same place as [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] and [name_m]Julian[/name_m] for me and I think it is the most masculine. I love the NN [name_m]Gabe[/name_m].
I think it should be fine. Sure [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] look and sound similar, but they’ve been around for a long time. If there are any mispronunciations, it’s typically by people who don’t always speak the same language or sometimes if a teacher is reading off of an attendance list too quickly, which after corrected usually doesn’t happen again. But those people also typically pronounce [name_m]Nikhil[/name_m] as [name_f]Nicole[/name_f], [name_m]Mitchel[/name_m] as [name_f]Michelle[/name_f], etc. It really shouldn’t be a problem and I think it’s a great name
I don’t think so. [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]'s fantastic, and I love the nns [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] and [name_m]Gable[/name_m] (even [name_u]Gale[/name_u]!). If anything, I see [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] as more masculine, rather than [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] being more feminine. I think, in some countries, [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] are said the same ([name_f]France[/name_f], for one, but I feel like I’ve heard it’s the same in Australia? I could be wrong, though.), but still, [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] is distinctly masculine, and [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f], feminine, for me.
Good luck!

No… Otherwise I doubt it would be in the US top 25.
I don’t find [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] feminine at all. Totally all boy.
No–completely masculine. I even knew a guy named [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f], and he pulled it off.
My brother’s name is [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. I don’t think anyone sees it as feminine, but it does get mispronounced on the first day of school as [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] frequently.
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] doesn’t sound feminine at all…
Definitely not feminine. [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] is a great nickname as well. Not that [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] is at all overly popular, but this is in regular enough use for boys that I seriously doubt he would have any problems.
Not at all!
It’s softer sounding than some masculine names ([name_m]Alexander[/name_m], names ending in -son), so idk if I’d choose it if you want a really masculine name, but it’s definitely not at all feminine in any way.
Thanks for the replies everyone
Unless you live in an area with many latin pronunciations (Spanish, Italian) then you don’t need to worry about it being pronounced like gabrielle. I knew a [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], and it was not a problem, its a widely known name.
That is a boy’s name and I never heard a girl named that. [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] is the female version and pronounced quite differently, emphasizing the “elle”
While I’ve actually met a female [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] (not [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]) and quite liked it on her, I don’t think the name is at all too feminine. Sure, it’s a softer boy name and not ultra macho but I think that’s part of the charm. People may get it confused when the child is younger (as a kid I had the worst time between [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and [name_f]Danielle[/name_f], so this name is sort of similar) but it’s a lovely name and [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] is such a cute nickname.
