Is Galilee too biblical?

I’m very much not a [name_m]Christian[/name_m], but I have a lot of family and friends who are. I was wondering if I were to name a child (all hypothetical, I’m not pregnant) [name_f]Galilee[/name_f], it could be a little weird to them? I’m really liking the name, but I don’t want to stick my nose where it doesn’t belong, you know?

I wouldn’t think [name_m]Christian[/name_m], no. My first thought is [name_m]Galileo[/name_m].

It’s very biblical. Whether or not it is “too” biblical is totally up to you. It would be most people first (and probably only) association, I would think.

I immediately thought of the Biblical sea, but I grew up going to church so it’s probably a stronger association for me than for someone who’s had minimal exposure to Christianity. I would personally expect a [name_f]Galilee[/name_f] to be religious or at least come from a religious family though.

It’s Biblical but doesn’t strike me as particularly religious. I see it more as a fun, spunky, creative word/place name - more hipster (in a good way!) than evangelical. Very religious names to me are more non-mainstream Biblical character names and Catholic saints’ names.

I like [name_f]Galilee[/name_f] - it’s lively, bouncy and feels very on-trend despite being extremely rarely used. If you’re worried about the Biblical aspect of it, how about [name_f]Jubilee[/name_f] or [name_f]Merrilee[/name_f]/Merrilees?

I like that name for its biblical ties as well as it’s sound (also [name_f]Galilea[/name_f] ). But I also think it is usable in general, since place names ate a trend these days.

I had no idea it was a biblical name
I’m not religious but I did grow up in Greece, an extremely religious country
[name_f]Galilee[/name_f] is really cute, you shouldn’t let the religious associations keep you from using it

The Biblical location is my first thought.

[name_f]Galilee[/name_f] is extremely biblical. I would expect a [name_f]Galilee[/name_f] to come from a religious (probably Protestant) family that goes to church every [name_f]Sunday[/name_f].

I am also very much not a [name_m]Christian[/name_m] and I did not grow up overly religious so to me - [name_f]Galilee[/name_f] is just really fun and cool. I have this same issue with [name_u]Shiloh[/name_u]. I know it’s biblical but at the same time, it’s one of my long time loves.

I don’t know if it’s TOO biblical, but I’d expect the family of a child named [name_f]Galilee[/name_f] to be religious, and specifically [name_m]Christian[/name_m]. I’d think it was very odd, perhaps bizarre if not. Another poster mentioned [name_u]Shiloh[/name_u]. I have the same thoughts about that name, but without knowing the motivation behind it, I can’t judge.

Given that you ste not [name_m]Christian[/name_m], I say keep looking.

I don’t think it’s bizarre at all to use any biblical name and not be [name_m]Christian[/name_m] and/or religious. Biblical names have always been popular and all kinds of people use them. It’s only natural to start looking for more uncommon ones for inspiration. I don’t have to be Greek to like [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] or Japanese to like [name_f]Amaya[/name_f]. [name_m]John[/name_m] and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] are biblical and are so mainstreamed that no one would think twice about whether or not they went to church or what kind of church it was. I think it’s great that more uncommon biblical names are being used, there are many pretty ones. [name_f]Galilee[/name_f] is one of those without being a tongue twister. Though I personally like [name_f]Galilea[/name_f] a little more.

I’m not from the US, so I don’t know how [name_f]Galilee[/name_f] would wear there
If you’re not sure, though, I like the suggestion of [name_f]Galilea[/name_f]. It’s a form of the same word, but feels more secular thanks to [name_m]Galileo[/name_m].

Other options might include:
[name_f]Galatea[/name_f] (or [name_f]Galatee[/name_f])
[name_f]Galena[/name_f] (or [name_f]Galina[/name_f] or [name_u]Galen[/name_u])
[name_f]Galila[/name_f]
Galiot
[name_f]Galia[/name_f]
[name_f]Gilenia[/name_f]
Gali (or Galie)
Gala (or Galla)
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]

I feel like…ya know how [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] is technically a iblical name but most people arent called [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] based on the bible story…I think [name_f]Galilee[/name_f] could get there… The name [name_f]Galilea[/name_f] is an option as well.

Thanks everyone! I’ve always been a little on the bizarre side anyway so I may as well stick it on the list

It’s obviously biblical but I don’t think that should stop you. If you like it go ahead, I sometimes think people put a little too much thought into the meaning or origin of names. Yes, sometimes it is nice to have lovely meaning but I think it is more important that you love the sound and feel of the name.

I think [name_f]Galilee[/name_f] has a lovely sound and sounds really joyful. I like it.
