Is Genevieve prettier than Lydia?

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is my favourite name for a girl at the moment. However, I’ve lately been thinking about [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and can’t decide which name I like best. What are your thoughts? Which do you prefer and why? Thanks

I like [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] better because it’s more simple and easier to spell.
I think [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] sounds more mature and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is more cute.
Both are great names!

I think [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is prettier. I think it wears equally well as a child as an adult. I love the cute nn option of [name_f]Gigi[/name_f]. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] has always seemed a bit harsh and heavy for me where [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is all beauty and lightness.

I wouldn’t imagine the 2 as sisters. Which might be a better point to consider.

I could see [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] with sisters [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f].

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] could have sisters [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Juliette[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f].

I much prefer [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. It’s so beautiful, elegant and timeless. I think [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is kind of clunky.

I think [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is a wonderful name! I tend to prefer names that don’t necessarily have a nn attached to it, and my family tree has both a [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and a [name_f]Livia[/name_f].

I also agree with the fact that these two names don’t exactly go together. Does your list have more names that fit with [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], or [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]?

I prefer [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] by a mile. I understand the appeal of [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], but personally I think it sounds really snobby.

While both names are pretty, I do heavily prefer [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is prettier, but [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is more sophisticated. I love both names!

I think [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is prettier, although this is all personal preference so go with what you love.

I prefer [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. It’s classic and pretty and simple. Lyds is a cute nn if you need one.

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] always seems a bit frilly to me. I get confused by the spelling and even the pronunciation. Is it [name_f]JEN[/name_f]-e-veeve or JHEN-e-veeve (like the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation for Je)?

I’m not a fan of [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. I don’t know why. It just doesn’t do anything for me. Maybe it’s the Y in the middle, maybe it’s the “lid” part…

But I love [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]!! Especially pronounced the [name_m]French[/name_m] way.

I think [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is much prettier. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] has never appealed to me, I don’t like the [name_f]Gen[/name_f]-sound and it just looks somewhat clunky.

I like both [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] & [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], my favourite is [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] though she’s just really pretty and has a sweet sound. A regal classic and I love the [name_f]Evie[/name_f] nickname as well.

I definitely prefer [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. It’s more beautiful and elegant, plus it has better nickname possibilities: [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], [name_f]Neve[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Viv[/name_f], [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], [name_f]Genie[/name_f]/[name_f]Ginny[/name_f].

I think they’re both gorgeous to be honest but I prefer the lyrical, melodious sound that [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] offers.

I prefer [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] over [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. I never liked [name_f]Lydia[/name_f].

I’ve never cared for [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]…not sure why, unless it’s the airhead sister in Pride & Prejudice that turned me off to it. Maybe it’s the d-sound in the middle that stops the name in the middle of pronouncing it.

I do like [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], although I prefer the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation: Zhan-VEE-ev (the first syllable is a cross between Zhan & Zhon, actually). I do like to play around w/the spelling for this one if it’s going to be pronounced the English way…Jenneveve nn [name_f]Jen[/name_f]/[name_f]Jennie[/name_f], or even Jenneveva to be really fancy.

Good luck!

I think that [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is leagues prettier. To me, [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is clunky and unattractive. I also picture it on an unfortunate looking woman. I catagorise it with [name_f]Frances[/name_f].

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] by far, I have never found [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] to be a pretty name…but [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is gorgeous!
