Is Hendry too weird?

My favourite boy name ([name_m]Henry[/name_m]) gets more and more popular every year, and I’m guessing that by the time I have children in the next several years it might be passed the point that I’ll be able to overlook how often used it is.

Aside from liking the name on it’s own, I also wanted to use it to name a baby after several of my family members with the last name [name_m]Henderson[/name_m]. So anyway, since from what I can find [name_m]Henderson[/name_m] actually means ‘son of Hendry’, I was wondering if Hendry would be a viable option.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think I would just be better off sticking with [name_m]Henry[/name_m] despite the popularity? And if not [name_m]Henry[/name_m] or Hendry, do you have any names that might work instead?

I like Hendry, especially since you would pick it to honor family but you should definitely be prepared for people to confuse the name with [name_m]Henry[/name_m] a lot.

We can’t know exactly how popular a name will be in the future. I think it’s ridiculous for you to drop your favorite name just because it might be in the top 10 some day in the future. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if that is the case, name popularity is not what it once was and I always feel that you should love the name of your child first and foremost. With that said, Hendry is a cool name, but I would definitely expect it to be confused/mistaken with [name_m]Henry[/name_m].

I agree the name is fine, but basically sounds like [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and will cause confusion.

I think Hendry would cause major confusion. People would hear [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. Hendry made me think of [name_u]Landry[/name_u] or Lowery though.

What about [name_m]Hendrik[/name_m]? [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m] won’t get mistaken for [name_m]Henry[/name_m] like Hendry will. Have you thought of just using the name [name_m]Henderson[/name_m]? If you use [name_m]Henderson[/name_m] you can always nn him [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is you want to.

I think [name_m]Henderson[/name_m] would be nice as a first or middle name. I agree that Hendry will often be mistaken for [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (even Entry?) but if that doesn’t bother you I do think it’s usable. I prefer [name_m]Hendrik[/name_m] or [name_m]Hendrix[/name_m] though.

I think [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] would be a distinct alternative and prefer it without the d.

Hendry sounds cute, but I agree it would cause confusion. I also think of a dry hen.
