? Herbert is a family name spanning back 3 generations, do you think it is usable?
I don’t really think so. Of course, you should always name your baby what you want to (barring cruelty) and while [name]Herbert[/name] is probably not cruel, it’s certainly not kind. I know it’s meaningful that it stretches through the years, but [name]Baby[/name] [name]Herb[/name] just doesn’t sound very fun or very stylish.
Thanks for your help, obviously I’m not actually naming a baby just wanting opinions and I agree that [name]Herbert[/name] doesn’t sound like a very nice name I was mostly wondering why people have that association/idea… Thanks
I think it’s usable. It’s a classic. Maybe not a [name]Baby[/name] [name]Herb[/name], but a [name]Baby[/name] [name]Herbie[/name]? Um, yes. And [name]Herb[/name] will fit right in with his classmates [name]Moss[/name] and [name]Juniper[/name], plus the [name]Janes[/name] and the Edwards.
With the nickname [name]Herbie[/name], [name]Herbert[/name] is extremely usable. It transitions well to all stages of life: [name]Herbie[/name] as a baby & child, [name]Herb[/name] as a teenager & young adult, [name]Herbert[/name] as an adult & old man. We have been conditioned to think that the name isn’t “cool”. This new generation hasn’t been condition to think this way. It’s better than being ANOTHER [name]Robert[/name]. It’s memorable, easy to spell and strong. Who wants to be ANOTHER [name]Jane[/name] or [name]James[/name]?
I think like most names it depends on where you are from. I think where I live the name [name]Herbert[/name] would get a lot of raised eyebrows!
Useable in the middle.
I would use it as a middle name for honoring a family memeber. I’m not a fan of most “bert” names. I like vintage names but some just seem really “old” and [name]Herbert[/name] is one of them.
In terms of usable, yes, but it is a bit “dated” and would probably get questioning looks. Most common known [name]Herbert[/name] was a president, so there’s that connection as well. Personally I don’t find the name attractive so I wouldn’t use it.
I think [name]Herbie[/name] could be seen as a “surfer” name, kind of like [name]Bede[/name] or [name]Kelly[/name]. It’s friendly and laid-back, like [name]Bodhi[/name].
[name]Baby[/name] [name]Herbie[/name] could be totally cute! I knew a really nice old guy named [name]Herb[/name]/[name]Herbie[/name].
I know a 5 yr old little boy called [name]Herbie[/name]. Not sure if I like it tho
I think it is for sure, with [name]Herbie[/name] as a cool nn.
I don’t like any names ending with [name]Bert[/name] ([name]Robert[/name]) included. I think the nickname [name]Herbie[/name] has too many unfortunate meanings and associations (check the urban dictionary).
[name]Herbert[/name] would be safer as a middle name. [name]Herb[/name] and [name]Herbie[/name] are so cute for a little guy. Hub is another nickname option.
[name]Herbert[/name] is my uncles name and [name]Ive[/name] always found it a bit odd.
If you want to use it to honor family I think as a mn would probably be best.
