Is Holden Usable?

[name_m]Holden[/name_m] was my favourite boy’s name until I traveled to Australia and learned just how prevalent the cars are! It was used 19 times in my province last year, so it’s obviously being used, but honestly, is it too much? I’ve read Catcher in the [name_m]Rye[/name_m] and didn’t particularly like [name_m]Holden[/name_m] Caulfield, but loved the name.

ETA that I’m in Canada

I knew of several boys named [name_m]Holden[/name_m] in the US… while I know of the car, I don’t automatically think of it when I hear the name. But again, that’s in the US. Not sure where you’re living now, but in the US I think it’s totally fine. The association is probably stronger in other countries. So I think it depends on where you’re living…

I think it’s totally usable

I think it’s totally usable. I’ve never even heard of the cars.

It’s definitely useable and I like it. I’ve never heard of the cars.

Yes, I love it!

I live in Australia and don’t know any Holdens but I do know a baby ‘[name_m]Ford[/name_m]’! I think it’s a really cool name.

I adore the name and it’s in my top 5, but husband vetoed it, which bummed me out! I absolutely love it and not one but of a fan of a catcher in the rye!

I live in [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealand and, like Australia, [name_m]Ford[/name_m] and [name_m]Holden[/name_m] are incredibly popular car brands…I know of one boy in my area named [name_m]Ford[/name_m], but I’ve not heard of any kids named [name_m]Holden[/name_m]. I myself wouldn’t use [name_m]Ford[/name_m] or [name_m]Holden[/name_m] just because of the cars - because where I live nearly every car I see is a [name_m]Holden[/name_m] or a [name_m]Ford[/name_m]…
But for you, because you’re not living in Australia or NZ, I would say it is definitely usable if the car brand isn’t popular/known where you live

Absolutely useable. I have always had a soft spot for this name since reading Catcher in the [name_m]Rye[/name_m] too. I have never heard of a [name_m]Holden[/name_m] brand car. I’m in the US.

All I think of when I hear that name is A Catcher in the [name_m]Rye[/name_m]. It’s kind of hard to escape.

I have a holden. I wanted something different but not weird. I’m [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and I graduated with 12 of them. I had to use my full name because 3 others had the same last initial. It was awful. I didn’t want to do that to my kid. [name_m]Holden[/name_m] has been my boy name since I was 16. I wish I’d been able to use it earlier (but I didn’t have kids yet. He’s 18 months now) because it’s becoming more popular. I get upset every time I hear someone use it. But I still love it. He wears it well, too.

I live in the US, and know 2 toddlers named [name_m]Holden[/name_m]. It is number 291 on the social security list for 2015. On Nameberry it is number 125. I couldn’t find an official list for [name_f]Canada[/name_f], but I don’t think it should be an issue.

I agree that it’s usable. I’ve never heard of the car until now, and was wondering, before I opened it, “Is it that “holdin’” thing?” I like [name_m]Holden[/name_m] a lot and find it super usable. I’d love to know a little [name_m]Holden[/name_m] or two!

I had no idea [name_m]Holden[/name_m] was a car. I definitely think you can use it as a name!

I’m Australian and really like the name [name_m]Holden[/name_m]. I also have met a little boy named [name_m]Ford[/name_m] but never anyone named [name_m]Holden[/name_m]!

I’ve never heard of the car. I find [name_m]Holden[/name_m] totally usable.

Never heard of the car (I live in [name_u]California[/name_u]), teach the book, only like it so-so.

I find the name usable, though I am not keen on it.
