I’m due 26 [name_u]December[/name_u] and I’m considering [name_f]Holly[/name_f] for a girls name (if its a girl, I don’t know yet). I like the name anyway but the fact that she would be a [name_u]December[/name_u] baby just seems even more fitting. She would be able to see all the holly dectorations at christmas and think “thats for me”…or do you just think [name_f]Holly[/name_f] for a [name_u]December[/name_u] bub is tacky??
I wouldn’t say tacky, but probably overused. Some other options could be [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], [name_f]Snow[/name_f]…there’s lots of names reminiscent of the [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] season. I like [name_f]Holiday[/name_f] personally (nickname [name_f]Holly[/name_f]).
I don’t think it’s tacky, just like I don’t find [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] for a [name_u]November[/name_u] baby, or [name_f]Summer[/name_f] for an [name_u]August[/name_u] baby to be tacky. It may be overdone, but if you like the name regardless of when she’ll be born, then use it
[name_f]Holly[/name_f]'s a lovely choice.
I agree with everyone before me. I feel like something a tad bit less obvious would be better. [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] maybe? or [name_f]Noella[/name_f]?
I like [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] better than I do [name_f]Holly[/name_f].
Others:
[name_u]Holland[/name_u] (nn [name_f]Holly[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f]
[name_f]Merry[/name_f] ([name_f]Mary[/name_f])
[name_f]Noeleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f]
Tashia (Russian form of [name_f]Natalie[/name_f])
[name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Holly[/name_f] and I was born around [name_u]Christmas[/name_u]. I never really minded, so if you love the name go for it. If you want an alternative try [name_f]Celyn[/name_f] (Kel-in), it’s welsh for [name_f]Holly[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Holly[/name_f] is super cute and perfect for a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u]-time baby. I don’t think it’s tacky at all. I really like when names relate to birth dates.
Honestly i probably wouldnt make the connection to christmas with holly. Lots of people dont even celebrat christmas and it wouldnt matter. I love [name_f]Holly[/name_f] too.
I agree with others that ‘tacky’ isn’t the word I’d use. But I have never met a [name_f]Holly[/name_f] that wasn’t born around [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], so it seems kind of obvious to me - as if you didn’t pick a name you love but the baby is due around [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] so her name must be [name_f]Holly[/name_f].
Holly is a sweet choice for a little girl, whether she is born around Christmas-time or not.
Another option could be Ivy, which feels more current and fresh.
Or, perhaps you’d like…
Nadia (means “hope”)
Natasha or Natalia (“birthday of the lord”)
Grace
Clara (the little girl from “The Nutcracker”, means “bright and clear”)
Eve
Stella or Estelle (“star”)
Theodora (“gift of God”)
Dora (“gift”)
Heidi or Molly (not Christmas-y, but shares some sounds with Holly)
Good luck, and congratulations!
I think the name [name_f]Holly[/name_f] is darling, but I like the idea someone said earlier - [name_f]Holiday[/name_f], and use [name_f]Holly[/name_f] as a nickname. I’d also like to add that I have a cousin named [name_f]Holly[/name_f] and everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE in our large family called her “[name_f]Holly[/name_f] [name_m]Bush[/name_m]”. [name_m]Just[/name_m] something to ponder.
I don’t think it is tacky at all, I have always thought [name_f]Holly[/name_f] needs to be used more. There definitely are “fresher” winter names like [name_f]Gwyneira[/name_f](“white snow”), [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] (derived from the word for snow) or Shezhana (“snowy”), but it doesn’t mean [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], [name_f]Holly[/name_f] and [name_f]Christina[/name_f] are cheesy.
Perhaps you mean [name_f]Tasha[/name_f]? [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] is the Russian form (like a character from “War and [name_u]Peace[/name_u]”) and [name_u]Nata[/name_u], [name_f]Tasha[/name_f] and [name_f]Natasha[/name_f] are popular nicknames. I think it sounds like a more unusual version of [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] with the same feel. ![]()
