[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Lena[/name_f] ([name_u]Lee[/name_u]-nuh) can be a nickname for [name_u]Lennon[/name_u]? What do you think about it? [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] has the Lehn sound in the beginning while [name_f]Lena[/name_f] has [name_u]Lee[/name_u] the way I pronounce it. I definitely don’t want to call her Lehn-uh only [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-nuh. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s too much of a stretch to get [name_f]Lena[/name_f] from [name_u]Lennon[/name_u]? What do you think about the name [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] for a girl?? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it would wear well into adulthood (getting a job?). Thanks!
I don’t mind [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] but it does make me think of the Beatles and more immediately a boy’s name. That’s not a big deal though. I think an employer might presume she’s from an artistic, free-spirited and/or hip background but that’ll be harder to pin down in her age group. I find it slightly chin-jutting as a name but also cool. I really like the nn [name_m]Lenny[/name_m]/[name_f]Leni[/name_f] - that is more intuitive as a nn than [name_f]Lena[/name_f] - but would myself use another name ([name_f]Lenore[/name_f]/[name_f]Helena[/name_f]/[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] etc) to get there.
I think if you’re wanting [name_f]Lena[/name_f] as [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-na you might as well use [name_f]Lena[/name_f]. I mean, to some extent anything goes for nicknames, but in this case when there similar but distinct, it feels like you’re just not sure about [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] itself.
I personally wouldn’t have thought of [name_f]Lena[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_u]Lennon[/name_u]. Thats not to say it can’t happen but to me they both sound different with the [name_u]Lee[/name_u] and Leh sounds.
I much prefer [name_f]Lena[/name_f] on its own but like the pp said, there are other name options where [name_f]Lena[/name_f] would be a more obvious nickname.
[name_u]Lennon[/name_u] reminds me of a boys name, not that it should matter as there are many unisex names. To me the nicknames for [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] would more likely be [name_m]Lenny[/name_m], [name_m]Len[/name_m].
I would go with [name_f]Lena[/name_f] as the given name. [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] and [name_f]Lena[/name_f] are so different style-wise, it is hard to imagine one person wearing both names. [name_m]Lenni[/name_m] (pronounced Leh-nee) strikes as a more intuitive nickname for [name_u]Lennon[/name_u].
My son is [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] so I obviously love it and think it ages well. (Though admittedly I much prefer it for a boy.) Nicknames can be whatever you want so it can work if that’s what you have your heart set on. But it’s not a natural choice. Nobody is going to say “oh [name_f]Lena[/name_f], what a pretty name, is it short for [name_u]Lennon[/name_u]?” And though I like both names they have such different vibes, it’s hard to imagine them being used interchangeably.
If you want to call her [name_f]Lena[/name_f], I’d just name her [name_f]Lena[/name_f]. If you want to call her [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] and your just wondering if [name_f]Lena[/name_f] can be a back up nickname if [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] doesn’t seem to fit her down the road, sure!
[name_u]Lennon[/name_u] is, in my opinion, quite masculine; and I don’t think [name_f]Lena[/name_f] is a natural nickname derived from [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] either.
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] can absolutely stand on its own as a beautiful name, but if you’re wanting it to be just a nickname, you could try Lenaia?
I have a niece named just [name_f]Lena[/name_f], it’s a beautiful name in itself and she doesn’t really have a nickname, except I call her [name_f]Lena[/name_f]-bug. I agree that a better nickname for [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] would be [name_f]Leni[/name_f]. I also have a co-worker whose daughter is named [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] who they call [name_f]Leni[/name_f]. Both are really great names but very different styles, [name_f]Lena[/name_f] is more of a sweet name while [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] is more of an edgy name, so it really just depends on what style you are going for.
Agree 100%.
