A friend and I were recently discussing baby names and she mentioned that her sister wanted to use the name [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. Their last name is M@rshall. I immediately noticed that the name [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] M@rshall sounds an awful lot like [name_f]Lily[/name_f] & [name_m]Marshall[/name_m], aka the married couple from [name_m]How[/name_m] I Met Your Mother.
Once i noticed it I couldn’t get over it. It really bothered me.
Anyone else had a similar occurrence? Did it bother you?
Yeah, I’m actually watching [name_m]How[/name_m] I Met Your Mother right now :lol: That’s definitely a reference that’ll be made a lot during her life…
[name_m]Little[/name_m] ones will not even know anything about [name_m]How[/name_m] I Met Your Mother. They might learn of the show later on, when she’s a teen or an adult (although that would be a couple decades from now) but I cannot see that being an issue. I also do not find [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_m]Marshall[/name_m] to be a negative. [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is a beautiful name. [name_f]Adore[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f].
when I first read your post I definitely thought of [name_m]How[/name_m] I Met Your Mother. However, I don’t think it’s a bad association and most people from her generation probably won’t even make the connection. If they love the name I wouldn’t let that stop them!
That said, [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] mm liana would be gorgeous and the connection would be quite so noticeable!

Your friend is in a tricky position: does she warn her sister and dash her name dreams or alert her to a problem she might not have considered otherwise but might realize some day long after [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_m]Marshall[/name_m] is born?
Maybe she can just use [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_m]Marshall[/name_m] and skip [name_f]Lillian[/name_f].
That would bug me. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though she might never come across the series, I just find ‘couple names’ in the same combo or as sibling names, quite weird. It would always be in the back of my mind. But if it doesn’t bother the parents, I don’t think it really matters.
I am guessing quite a few families in this world have siblings with names (or similar names) to sibling names in a show, book, movie, etc. I am also guessing there are plenty of people in this world that have a first name and surname that shares a first name and surname with a character (or a celerity). Some of these might have been done on purpose but many just happen. Children can also be named and later characters are developed with those names. It just happens.
Agreed. I think of [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_m]Marshall[/name_m] with [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_m]Marshall[/name_m], but I don’t think it really matters too much. It was a great show, and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_m]Marshall[/name_m] were adorable. Honestly, people might bring it up to her parents, but to her personally? I rather doubt it. Plus, I think it’s a rather harmless tie.
