Is it name enough?

[name]Long[/name] time lurker as a guest and have finally taken the plunge into signing up as a user. This is my first post… [name]How[/name] exciting

We have 2 children [name]Alice[/name] [name]Kate[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] [name]Elliot[/name]. Our last name has 2 syllables. We are expecting our third. I’m just starting to think and look at names. We have already used our 2 favourite names with [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] so we are starting from scratch here.

For a boy I just can’t seem to get [name]Charlie[/name] out of my mind. It seems so friendly yet simple which is what [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] are to us. I just don’t feel the same way about [name]Charles[/name] but worry that [name]Charlie[/name] isn’t name enough put on a birth certificate next to [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Henry[/name]?

What do you think?

I would use [name]Charles[/name] as his legal name and call him [name]Charlie[/name]. [name]Charles[/name] fits really well with [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Alice[/name].

Your children’s names are beautiful

I feel the same way about [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Charles[/name]…You could do what the previous poster said. I’d keep looking but keep that name in my pocket as a definite pick.

I wouldnt use just [name]Charlie[/name] as a legal name. 1) because it’s a nickname 2) because peoplers using it as a full name for girls

Other options to get to nicname [name]Charlie[/name]:

[name]Carl[/name]
[name]Carlton[/name]
[name]Callahan[/name]
Cairbre ( check spelling maybe not proper gaelic)
[name]Carroll[/name]
Chilton
[name]Chesley[/name] (modern hero name)
[name]Chandler[/name]
[name]Charleston[/name]
[name]Chaucer[/name]
[name]Chauncey[/name]

I love your kids’ names. I have a [name]Henry[/name] and my favorite girl name for my last two pregnancies (having my third boy, so I can’t use it!) has been [name]Alice[/name]. I like [name]Charlie[/name] a lot, but I do think you should name him [name]Charles[/name]. It’s a really nice name and I know what you mean about not loving it quite as much as [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Charlie[/name] (it’s not quite as friendly sounding or something), but it will be a good thing when he’s grown up and a good thing to be able to put a formal name down on paper. Good luck!

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Alice[/name]!

As for [name]Charlie[/name], I think it’s great with [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Alice[/name], but I would give him the full name [name]Charles[/name] so that if he wants to have a more “grown up” name, he can.

Have you given any thought to your girl’s list?

Thanks for the replies. Something to ponder. It’s hard since the choices for [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] were so obvious. It’s actually a bit panicking thinking this baby has no name.

No other boys names are really standing out to me. Maybe [name]Oliver[/name] or [name]Edward[/name]. I don’t know.

Girls names we’ve started pondering
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Margot[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Elsa[/name]/[name]Elsie[/name]
[name]Vivian[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]

Oh, I love your girl list! My favorites would have to be: [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name]. I also love [name]Beatrice[/name], but not with [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Alice[/name].

I wouldn’t use just [name]Charlie[/name] because as a PP mentioned it is becoming a girls name. [name]Edward[/name] I love, as well as [name]Edwin[/name] and [name]Edmund[/name]/[name]Edmond[/name], any of these go well with your other children (beautiful names!) For your girls list my choices would be [name]Clara[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name] or [name]Margot[/name]. I love [name]Beatrice[/name] but I think it competes with [name]Alice[/name] because of the “s” sounds that they both end with, but if you would consider [name]Beatrix[/name] that would be my top pick!

I thought about this some more and I think you can use [name]Charlie[/name]! You already used [name]Kate[/name] as [name]Alice[/name]'s middle name, and [name]Kate[/name]'s usually a nickname and not a full name, so why not with [name]Charlie[/name]?

Of course, if the baby is a girl, then this isn’t helpful. I like [name]Mabel[/name] with [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Alice[/name].
