to use a name and use the same name in a diffrent language such as [name]Lawrence[/name] and [name]Lorenzo[/name] (spansh for lawrence) or is that weird
I would think it’s weird. I think each child deserves his or her own unique name.
It could be very confusing. I would avoid this at all costs.
As it would be a variant of the first name its not something I would personally do.
[name]Do[/name] you mean to name one child [name]Lawrence[/name] and one [name]Lorenzo[/name]? No, that’s definitely not ok. I would call [name]Lawrence[/name] [name]Lorenzo[/name] though for fun.
[name]Hi[/name]!
Personally, I wouldn’t name a son [name]Lawrence[/name] (fn) [name]Lorenzo[/name] (mn) or brothers [name]Lawrence[/name] and [name]Lorenzo[/name]. However, I think you could call [name]Lawrence[/name] [name]Lorenzo[/name] as a nickname (and vice versa), like the previous poster said.

I think using the same name twice (albeit international variations) makes you sound ignorant. I, and I think others, would assume that you didn’t realize you were essentially repeating the same name. In fact, some friends of mine know a family with 2 boys – a [name]John[/name] and a [name]Sean[/name] (Irish form of [name]John[/name]), and they (my friends) are always laughing about how ridiculous it is and how this couple should name their next son [name]Johannes[/name] (or some other variant of [name]John[/name]). Ha, ha, ha … So No, I wouldn’t do it.
I would argue it’s not the best idea, but plenty of people name their kids [name]Isabelle[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name].
That’s a bit harsh of your friends. [name]Sean[/name] and [name]John[/name] may be variations on the same name but they don’t really sound anything alike the way lawrence and lorenzo are obviously very similar

Well, I was witness to my friends making fun of the [name]John[/name] & [name]Sean[/name] family, but I’m sure they would never do it in front of the family. I don’t even know this family. I just heard about them from my friends. Definitely, it’s not so nice, but my main point is that some people will find it laughable or weird and may even be critical (even if it’s not nice). So, I wouldn’t do it. I just don’t see any good reason to do it except a scenario perhaps where some other branch of the family has honored a grandparent, etc, and you wish to also honor the same person and do so by choosing another international variant of the name that’s already in use in your extended family.
I think it would be a good way to honour a family member without giving your child the same name, eg if his father’s name is [name]Lawrence[/name], but you have Spanish heritage, then naming your son [name]Lorenzo[/name] would be cool. I think if it was siblings, like other posters here, it might be too much, but depending on the circumstances it could work.
Good luck!
