Is it really that bad?

The name is [name]Willa[/name] [name]Gwen[/name].

I’ve received responses that it’s too w heavy and the two names are fine on their own, but don’t work together well at all.

I understand that [name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Gwen[/name] or [name]Willa[/name] [name]Gwendolen[/name] sound much better in regard to flow, but I prefer [name]Willa[/name] [name]Gwen[/name] for the following reasons:

  1. I want to use [name]Willa[/name] as the name she goes by, and while I like [name]Wilhelmina[/name], DH does not. He does like [name]Willa[/name] though. [name]Willa[/name] is for my dad, [name]William[/name]. Also, [name]Wilhelmina[/name] feels out of place with my kids’ names, [name]Logan[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], and [name]Mick[/name] (short for [name]Michael[/name]).

  2. [name]Gwen[/name] is the name of my grandmother, and it’s just [name]Gwen[/name]. We also like to incorporate the name of a [name]Saint[/name] in our children’s names, and their is a St. [name]Gwen[/name], again just [name]Gwen[/name].

Is there really something bad about the two names together that I’m not hearing?

Thanks!

I think [name]Willa[/name] [name]Gwen[/name] is fine. Where did you get this feedback from? From people you know or on Nameberry?

I find that people can get hung up on what they feel is a “heavy” use of the same letter a lot on here, of course everybody has their opinions and Nameberry is great for getting a general opinion - but everybody on here has SUCH different tastes, so you can’t let the feedback completely put you off a name that you love - particularly if you are using the name for sentimental reasons, it has SO much more meaning to you than people can understand so of course you’ll feel differently about it than some random stranger on an internet forum will.

Personally I much prefer the name [name]Willa[/name] to [name]Wilhelmina[/name], and I much prefer [name]Gwen[/name] to [name]Gwendolen[/name] - if [name]Willa[/name] [name]Gwen[/name] is the name you love, absolutely use it. I, for one, think its pretty and a nice way to honour your relatives.

It was on another forum, and I do appreciate their honest feedback. I was just afraid that my love for the names was blinding me from seeing something really wrong with it. Thanks for your thoughts!

[name]Willa[/name] [name]Gwen[/name] is fine and since the combo has special meaning for you I don’t think you should worry! [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Willa[/name] are adorable together.

I think [name]Willa[/name] [name]Gwen[/name] is perfectly acceptable and pretty, very meaningful and sweet. [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Willa[/name] are great together.

I agree- [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Gwen[/name] are better than [name]Wilhelmina[/name] and [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. [name]Willa[/name] [name]Gwen[/name] does flow together, and kind of becomes a single name. But it’s quite pleasing to my ears. AND if you want, you could call her [name]Billie[/name] once in a while! I love that.

I like it fine. I think it sounds a bit breathy when you say it aloud, but who’s going to be saying her whole name all the time? It’s a middle name and first name, so it’s fine. I think it’s lovely and it has great meaning to you. Use it!

I think it sounds great. Not everyone is going to like the name you pick, but that’s a good thing because we don’t want to live in a world with everyone having similar names. I think that if you love it and it has great meaning to you, then don’t be afraid of what others think.

I guess I’m the only one that disagrees, but I don’t like it that much at all. It sounds like Wilagwin to me when said outloud.
Nothing against either name, but together I just think it becomes one word.

I think it’s lovely.

I think middle names are much more forgiving, really who uses your middle name except family and if you love it then it doesn’t matter!

I love both names, and I think that family significance definitely trumps flow. I don’t think that the combination is that problematic sound-wise to begin with.

Although [name]Willa[/name] is not my cup of tea, they sound absolutely fine together. I don’t mind the double W sounds at all!

I love [name]Willa[/name] [name]Gwen[/name]! I really like how short and snappy the names are and that they have special meaning to you and your family. [name]Willa[/name] [name]Gwen[/name] is simply beautiful!

Honestly, it sounds just fine. I think people should feel a bit less pressure when picking a middle name. I have never heard anybody say my name, my husbands name, my daughters name, etc. out loud with the middle name included. Never. So, while I think it is really fun to try to find the perfect name that flows perfectly it is not nearly as important as picking what you love.

[name]Will[/name] she just go by [name]Willa[/name]? If so, it’s fine. The meaning of the name is more important than flow. [name]Willa[/name] [name]Gwen[/name] is a mouthful if she’s going by both and a bit awkward.

[name]Willa[/name] [name]Gwen[/name] is really sweet. Objectively looking at it, it IS heavy on the W’s, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing! It’s just an observation, that you can decide whether you like or not (alliteration names are a good example, it bothers some people, others don’t care, others like alliteration names, but pointing out that an alliteration name is an alliteration is only the beginning of the conversation, not the end of it).

I can’t believe anyone would have a problem with it?! I mean, if someone doesn’t like the names as far as a personal taste thing, okay, but no name is going to please everyone. These are two classic, sensible girls names that can grow with a girl from babyhood to womanhood. They hit all the things that berries or people in general look for when naming a child. You must have been in a forum with trolls. Or people hooked on [name]Nevaeh[/name].

You ladies rock! I was really starting to worry a bit about it but I totally feel at ease now. Thanks so much!

There’s a town in [name]California[/name] that is called [name]Willow[/name] [name]Glen[/name] and [name]Willa[/name] [name]Gwen[/name] kind of sounds like someone is trying to say [name]Willow[/name] [name]Glen[/name] but can’t. I am probably the only person who would ever think that though and I think it’s lovely. W is a great letter.
