In my family it is a tradition to have a Hawaiian middle name in addition to a ‘regular’ middle name. We won’t toss around idea for a Hawaiian name until we find out the gender. my husband and I love so many girls names, we’re having a hard time settling. He loves [name_f]Cora[/name_f], and while I love it too I can’t let go of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] (which DH likes as well, just not as much as [name_f]Cora[/name_f]). For middle names we love [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_f]Louise[/name_f]. And I feel like I just can’t pick one! So, would [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] (Hawaiian middle) of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] (hawaiian middle) just be way too much?
I think three middle names would be too much, but if it feels right to you then you should still go with your gut. It’s not like the middle names are used that often in real life anyways. If you are in the US, I would check to see how many characters you are allowed on a SS card depending on the length of your surname and the Hawaiian name just to make sure all documents display the name the same.
If you were to go with one “regular” middle, I do like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] better than [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] over [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u].
Three middle names is a lot, but I don’t think it’s too much per se. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] (Hawaiian middle name) could be nice, depending on the last middle name. You’d have to pick a short one, I think.
My cousin’s kids have Hawaiian middle names, and theirs are very lengthy/polysyllabic. I am on the side of two middle names, max, especially if you are using a longer Hawaiian name.
I actually like the sound of [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. That way, you both win a bit!
I’ll be the first to say I’m a huge proponent of two middle names, but I think three might be a little much. I grew up with a guy who had three middle names, and I don’t know. It’s just so much name. I love two middles, but I think three is probably taking it too far. I’m with @ffennec, too–most of the Hawaiian names I can think of are fairly long and have lots of syllables, so something like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Leilani[/name_f] is really over-the-top for me, even though it is really gorgeous. I would personally opt for [name_f]Louise[/name_f], and save [name_u]June[/name_u] for another daughter?
Personally for me even two middles names can seem overwhelming. Three or more middle names often sounds more like a list of names than a name of an individual. We have used two middle names in our girl combos because all the names honor loved ones and we wanted to honor certain loved ones together. [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] are my favorites, slightly preferring [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u].
I am not a fan of two middle names, let alone three so choosing [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] or [name_f]Louise[/name_f] with a Hawaiian mn would be my preferred combo.
Three middle names is probably too much, your naming a person not a king! I like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] “Hawaiian name”. I’m not a fan of [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and I know a lot of Coras.
Thanks everyone! I probably should have thrown in a few additional facts.
First of all, the next kiddo will probably be our last. Otherwise I’d totally save names for future children.
My husband prefers [name_f]Cora[/name_f] over [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], but I’m torn between the two, perhaps slightly preferring [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. [name_f]Louise[/name_f] has family history. [name_u]June[/name_u] does not, but it just makes me swoon as a middle name.
I like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] because if has so many nicknames- scout (to pair with [name_u]Jem[/name_u]), [name_f]Lettie[/name_f], Scar, and my favorite, though it’s a stretch- kit, to honor many [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]'s in my family.
But [name_f]Cora[/name_f] just has a sweet, soft sound that I can’t get over.
Maybe you could hypenate [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_f]Louise[/name_f]? [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f] (Hawaiian) or [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f] (Hawaiian)? That way she’d technically just have two middle names. [name_u]Cora[/name_u]-[name_u]June[/name_u] could also work as a double first name, if getting to use June would help you let go of the idea of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] are both very lovely names. I also agree that maybe three mn makes it very lengthy, however when do you really say your whole name out loud? If you were to use three mn I like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] (Hawaiin mn) and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] (Hawaiin mn).
I think your mn combo depends on the Hawaiin name as it can change whether [name_f]Louise[/name_f] or [name_u]June[/name_u] goes with it.
I prefer [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] (Hawaiin mn) or [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] (Hawaiian mn). If I had to choose I think I would pick [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]
If you want to use three mn I like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] (Hawaiin mn). Good luck
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Cora[/name_f] or [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] with the [name_m]Hawaii[/name_m] name as the second middle.
Three middles is way too much in my opinion, and I’d personally go for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] (Hawaiian name) or [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] (Hawaiian name).
