I have been looking for four letter boy names for a sibling for [name]Knox[/name]. I like [name]Ford[/name] but I feel in reality it would get nothing but weird looks ranging from “Like the car?!” to reactions of it being an old man name. What do you think?
I can’t see it working on a real person. I think people will probably think negativity of [name]Ford[/name] so I think it’s best to steer clear of it.
I agree with cannebella, [name]Ford[/name] does have many negative conotations associated with it. I do think that people would automatically assume that you named your child after the [name]Ford[/name] motor company.
I can’t see it working either. A lot of [name]Chevy[/name] and [name]Dodge[/name] drivers around here have “Piss on [name]Ford[/name]” stickers. I can see those being used to tease and bully somebody named [name]Ford[/name].
I like it. I also love [name]Bentley[/name].
I don’t really like it. It makes me think of a car. But is made me think of [name]Harrison[/name] [name]Ford[/name] and how I like the names:
[name]Harris[/name]
[name]Harrison[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
If you like [name]Ford[/name] you might like:
[name]Gray[/name]/[name]Grey[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Kade[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Piers[/name]
[name]Rhys[/name]
Jacks/[name]Jax[/name]/Jaxx
[name]Zach[/name]
[name]Luke[/name]
[name]Kaine[/name]
[name]Blaine[/name]
[name]Bray[/name]
[name]Mark[/name]
I’m sorry, but I automatically think Car or [name]Gerald[/name] [name]Ford[/name], who was one of the presidents of the US. It’s fine as a last name, might work as a middle, but as a first I think he’d get a lot of car/truck jokes…
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using the name [name]Ford[/name], however, when I saw that your other son’s name was [name]Knox[/name], I immediately thought of [name]Fort[/name] [name]Knox[/name].
I actually have no problem with [name]Ford[/name] as a first name. Yes, it has a strong connection to a car company, but the car company was named after [name]Henry[/name] [name]Ford[/name]. In other words, it’s a surname name like so many of the others on Nameberry, and [name]Henry[/name] [name]Ford[/name] was an inventor and innovator. [name]Ford[/name] is straightforward to spell and pronounce, familiar internationally, and yet not trendy or common. I think the positives outweigh the negatives. Besides, the company’s main slogan is “built [name]Ford[/name] tough.” I think a little boy might love that!
[name]Ford[/name] cars have a reputation for being poor quality. I just remember hearing people say F.O.R.D. stands for Fix Or Repair [name]Daily[/name] or Found On The Roadside Dead. Not a great association.
These responses surprise me. I know a little boy named [name]Ford[/name] and the people who do comment on his name really like it. [name]Harrison[/name] [name]Ford[/name] gives it a rugged, adventurous edge, whereas the nature imagery softens it and gives it more of a peaceful feel. I think [name]Ford[/name] would be a versatile, solid choice.
I think it’s okay. I don’t particularly like it, but I can see it working in the same way that [name]Knox[/name] does. I agree that the [name]Ford[/name] [name]Knox[/name] thing is a little funny.
If you absolutely love it and can deal with the responses then, I say go for it.
If not, maybe consider something else.

Dislike. I think of a car as well.
I don’t love it, but I think it could be handsome. It has a cowboy/western feel.
All the things people have said about [name]Ford[/name] are true but I’ve met a [name]Ford[/name] before and I wasn’t thinking those things. I think the other kids were but I thought it was a cool name. If you’re still nervous about the connotations, maybe something like [name]Milo[/name], [name]True[/name], or [name]Reid[/name] might suit you.
I met a little [name]Ford[/name] and he was adorable! Thumbs up from me!
It’s one of those names we can probably come up with negative associations if we try* but if you met an actual kid named [name]Ford[/name] I think his individual personality would instantly trump all the thin connections. I love it. Anyway, I saw some suggestions above of names like [name]Jett[/name] and [name]Dune[/name] and [name]Reef[/name]…really? Those would be so much more ridiculous on a child than noble little [name]Ford[/name].
*[name]Don[/name]'t forget Brave [name]New[/name] World! Our [name]Ford[/name]…hehe
I’m with Southern.[name]Maple[/name] on this one – I’m really surprised at all the negative reactions. I know a boy named [name]Ford[/name] short for [name]Clifford[/name] – his dad is called [name]Cliff[/name] – and the name is strong and simple and distinctive. I don’t mentally connect the car brand or the President, I think more about fording a stream.
But as for [name]Ford[/name] being a good match for [name]Knox[/name] – [name]Fort[/name] [name]Knox[/name], good catch.
if you like [name]Ford[/name], why not use it as a nickname and find something longer with it as a syllable such as:
[name]Wilford[/name]
[name]Forden[/name] / Fordyn
Fordson
Ashford
[name]Bluford[/name]
I’d probably stick [name]Ford[/name] in the middle. It’s a handsome name but it might not do best up front.
