Is James too old?

I have numerous friends with children with the middle name [name]James[/name], but I would love it for a future child as their first name. Is it too old? I don’t recall the last time I met a child named [name]James[/name] and I know a lot use it as a filler middle name.

I don’t think it’s too old. I think it’s too popular, if anything? It’s in the top 20 in the US and higher in some other English-speaking countries.

If you love it and its only fear of it being old that’s holding you back, use it.

I like it more than some other Top Ten boy’s names and it’s a fairly trend-proof perennial classic. I don’t know where one would get the idea its uncommon or on its way out, though.

I forgot to mention - we are in the UK

[name]James[/name] was ranked #17 last year, up two spots from 2011 (when it was #19), and right around where it’s been for more than 15 years. It’s a classic that won’t be considered dated (or old) any time soon. [name]Even[/name] though you haven’t personally met a [name]James[/name] doesn’t mean they don’t exist! Whenever I get a new vehicle, I don’t realize how many other vehicles of the same make are out on the road until I have mine and I find that to be true with names, too.

ETA: In [name]Britain[/name], [name]James[/name] was #5 in 2011 and 2012. So it’s slightly more popular on that side of the pond than here in the states.

It’s #11 here in this Australian state, lol. I don’t know what the numbers are in the UK but sometimes it feels like I can’t go anywhere without hearing a mom yelling after a [name]James[/name] or [name]Jamie[/name].

I think [name]James[/name] is a fabulous classic!
