What are your thoughts on using [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] as a first name- do you think people would know how to pronounce it correctly, would they find it weird or likable, does it have any bad connotations?
Given the choice, would you prefer [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] over [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f]?
Also- do you think [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] would make an interesting sibling to [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]? I realize the origins are completely different but I like the mystery shrouding both of the names.
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] is absolutely usable! It’s a beautiful name and I think you’d get overwhelmingly positive reactions to it. I think it’s fairly intuitive to pronounce, though as with all -ine names people may pronounce the final syllable differently (I’d say “[name_u]JESS[/name_u]-ah-min”). But people called [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] have this problem too and those names are still widely used.
I like [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] and [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] as sisters, and [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] and [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f] even more - [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f] feels a bit more streamlined to me and therefore fits a bit better with spunky [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]. I personally prefer [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f] to [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] but both are really lovely names, and very underused.
It’s definitely usable and very pretty. I slightly prefer [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] to [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f], but [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f] sounds better with [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f].
Completely. I see no reason why it shouldn’t be usable. I don’t think it’s too difficult to pronounce, and if the ending is the issue, I think it’s very easy to rectify. I love [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]! I much prefer it to [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f], as it sounds beautiful, but isn’t overly sweet, which I get from [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] make great siblings.
I think [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] is lovely and much prefer it to [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f]. [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] would be pretty sibling names.
I do prefer [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f] with [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] and I don’t know if [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] would be hard to pronounce (I would say [name_u]Jess[/name_u]-a-meen).
Definitely!! I don’t love but I do like [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] and far prefer it above [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] seems fresh and modern compared with [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] and I think nn [name_f]Jessa[/name_f] is really cute.
I much prefer [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f], but [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] is cute as well, and definitely wearable for me. I also feel like [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f] is a better match with [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] that [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] is.
I think [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] is totally usable, I even know of a little [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] over [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f], because I think the latter resembles [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] too much. [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] and [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] would be a nice sister duo.
Thanks everyone for the nice replies!! So glad to see [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] getting some love. I do like [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f] a lot too but my heart usually lies with the longer forms of names rather than the shorter forms. I like the idea that a [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] could go by [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f] if she wished. All in all, I’m not having kids anytime soon, I just like to dream.
[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: Forgot to mention, I use “[name_u]JESS[/name_u]-a-min” as my pronunciation.
