I absolutely adore the name [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f], and re-reading [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] [name_u]Berry[/name_u] and [name_f]Gina[/name_f] DeJesus’s beautiful memoir this afternoon reminded me of that. However, I’m afraid it’s getting outdated, lumped in with [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_f]Lauren[/name_f], [name_f]Katie[/name_f], [name_f]Rachel[/name_f], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], etc. What do you all think? [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] has such a beautiful meaning, too. [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] would be very pretty, I think. Opinions, anybody? Middle name ideas if you don’t like [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]?
I definitely associate it with previous decades, like the 70’s and 80’s, but I don’t think it’s dated in a bad way. I would be pleasantly surprised if I met a little [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f].
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is a bit of tongue twister with all the L sounds. Here are some suggestions I thought sounded nice:
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rosette[/name_f]
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Harlow[/name_f]

I love the name [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f]. I’ve only met two, one in her 50s and the other in her 20s.
Unfortunately I usually think of the 80s but still could be cute now!
Thank you all! [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] would be gorgeous.
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Clio[/name_f] has now been added to my list!
No, it won’t be lumped with those names you mentioned. It peaked at #50 in 2007 in the US. The other names you mentioned peaked in the 80s or 90s except [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. It also didn’t rise nearly as high as those names, so people won’t recognize the “datedness” as much. In fact, it didn’t ever climb to the top 10 so I’m not sure “dated” is an appropriate term here. It is on the decline now, but that isn’t necessarily a problem, especially in cases like this where the name was never overused. You seem to love it, so go for it! A perfectly good choice.
I find it outdated
I love [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] as one of those medieval names that survived to the present-- to me it’s more classic and [name_m]French[/name_m] than 80s and trendy.
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f]
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Tempeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Mathilde[/name_f] or [name_f]Clothilde[/name_f]
I actually see [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] as a solid “grandma name”, rather than a slightly dated 80’s/90’s name like the others you mentioned. I don’t personally love it, but it feels old fashioned to me, rather than dated.
I actually know of two baby Jocelyns (I live in the UK), so I think it’s enjoying a bit of a bump now that “old lady names” are back in style.
