Is John boring?

[name]Do[/name] you think [name]John[/name] is boring? Really loving the combination with our chosen middle name. What do you think of the name [name]John[/name] Ackers? [name]John[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] Ackers?

Thanks, [name]Lillian[/name]

Yeah I do. Sorry. I like it as a middle though!

Not at all. I think it’s pure classic. It would be completely unexpected on a modern day baby.

I don’t think so at all. It’s classic and imo most of the classic names have a certain spunk to them. With your combo I prefer [name]Johnathan[/name]/[name]Jonathan[/name] however

Not at all boring!! I favor boy names that are masculine & not at all juvenile & trendy. [name]John[/name] is probably the best of that list. It’s the [name]Jane[/name] of boy’s names- never feels dated, your child will never feel pigeon holed cause it suits all types! Very handsome choice!

For a bunch of recent commentary on [name]John[/name], see: Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums

I would spell it [name]Jon[/name] looks cuter and a bit different to lots of men with the name [name]John[/name] xxx

I second this. I think it would be fresh again. Also, I love the nickname [name]Johnny[/name] for a child.

I actually love it and would enjoy meeting a little boy named [name]John[/name].

Sorry, not keen, boring for me, but it’s a mega popular name in my family.

If I met two baby boys, one named [name]Kai[/name] and one named [name]John[/name], I’d be more wowed by the name [name]Kai[/name] than [name]John[/name]. HOWEVER, and it’s a big however, there is a large amount of charm to [name]John[/name]. It seems so classy next to [name]Kai[/name] and the more “exciting” trendy names. It’s very grown up and professional. It has history.

The only issues I have with [name]John[/name] is its use in American slang- a [name]John[/name] is a toliet. A [name]John[/name] is a man who picks up prostitutes. A [name]John[/name] is a [name]John[/name] [name]Doe[/name]. These could cause major problems.

I love it! It sounds strong and handsome to me.

I think up to 40 years ago it would have been boring. Now, I think it’s the complete opposite as it’s so familiar yet unexpected on a 21st century baby.

I would much rather meet a baby [name]John[/name] now than yet another [name]Jacob[/name], [name]Ethan[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Jack[/name].

I have a baby [name]John[/name]! My DH was adamant that our son’s name be [name]John[/name] & it’s a fairly common family name on my side, so I went with it. We paired it with another solid classic boy’s name & I came up with a cool nn, so I’m happy with his name. [name]One[/name] concern I had was what a pp mentioned re toilet etc. but I’ve never heard little kids use the name in that way. Another “problem” I had with the name is that it sounds too ‘adult’ for a baby, however, the nn solves that problem. So far I’ve only had positive remarks about his name, both before and after his birth.

I remember reading about a [name]John[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] years ago. I thought his name was pretty cool. [name]John[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] (1620 – 1706) was an English writer, gardener and diarist. [name]John[/name] is a strong, traditional, classic, handsome classic. I love the combo [name]John[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] but the only issue is the the blending of [name]John[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] and [name]John[/name] Ackers (names ending in “n” do blend into vowels). I don’t think it’s a deal-breaker if you [name]LOVE[/name] the name.

FYI - My father was a John but called Jack. My brother is a John and that’s what he was named. Neither had trouble with teasing regarding toilets or prostitutes. Just saying.

I like the name [name]John[/name], but I don’t think it’s exciting by any means, just because to me, it’s still really common…not that I know any young kids with that name. However, [name]John[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] sounds good, [name]Evelyn[/name] being different for a boy balances out [name]John[/name].

[name]John[/name] bores me terribly. At least go with the full [name]Jonathan[/name] if anything.

[name]Evelyn[/name] in the middle spot is a poor choice these days, since although it has been unisex historically (like a hundred years ago), it’s coming into popularity again for little girls and I don’t think many people are aware that it ever was viable for boys.

I don’t think it’s boring. Pure classic.

I completely agree.

Sorry, [name]John[/name] seems boring and dated to me.I feel like every [name]John[/name] I know is in their fourties or older
