Is Jonah inevitably going to be called Joe?

Our neighbour is a [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] and my little guy calls him [name_u]Joni[/name_u] or [name_u]Joan[/name_u]

I think as names become less common, automatic nicknames are rarer. Gone are the days where there are five Josephs in a class - all inevitably called [name_u]Joe[/name_u]. I’d say the nickname is avoidable.

in short, no!

my sons is named jonah (he is 1 1/2) and he is always jonah, without exception! i think its a short enough name to not really need a nickname and if you introduce your son as jonah, people should follow your lead.

Perfectly avoidable!

I love the name [name_u]Jonah[/name_u]! I know one, and as far as I know he’s always called [name_u]Jonah[/name_u].

[name_u]Jonah[/name_u] is short enough to not yield a “need” for a nn, and all the [name_m]Jonahs[/name_m] I’ve know have just been [name_u]Jonah[/name_u]. [name_u]Joe[/name_u] is definitely avoidable, I wouldn’t even think to go to it unless he was introduced as such.

I don’t think so!

I know a [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] who only goes by [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] and I know a [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] who sometimes is called [name_m]Jones[/name_m], never [name_u]Joe[/name_u].

Our [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] has always gone by [name_u]Joey[/name_u] now sometimes [name_u]Joe[/name_u]. He rarely ever goes by [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] and for a long time most of his friends didn’t know that was his given name. Some people even thought he was a junior since he went by [name_u]Joey[/name_u] as his father’s name was [name_m]Joel[/name_m]. I wanted a [name_u]Joey[/name_u] and his dad didn’t want his name to be [name_u]Joseph[/name_u], he also didn’t want him to be a [name_m]Joel[/name_m] [name_m]Jr[/name_m] as his uncle was a junior and it was a nightmare in their small town as his uncle was always getting mixed up with his grandfather. Our compromise was [name_u]Jonah[/name_u]

I would never automatically assume a guy named [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] would go by [name_u]Joe[/name_u]. I would always call him [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] unless I was told he went by [name_u]Joe[/name_u].

I know a [name_u]Jonah[/name_u]. Everyone just calls him [name_u]Jonah[/name_u]. [name_u]Joe[/name_u] might be somewhat inevitable for [name_u]Joseph[/name_u], but not [name_u]Jonah[/name_u], I think.

I wouldn’t ever assume [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] went by [name_u]Joe[/name_u]. I’ve never heard of [name_u]Joe[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_u]Jonah[/name_u]. I think it’s an unlikely problem, but you could always correct people if they do say it.
